2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Think the aleer interest from the club is from a different perspective than fans will have. We are building to a game plan, Ross knows what he wants. But I agree not worth the $s being floated. All about ground coverage

That also seems reasonably bizarre to me, given we’ve played finals once in 15 years and missed the 8 by 6 wins this year.

Generally to win a flag you need to be having a prolonged crack at it over a number of years, ideally with a group that mostly came through together, so surely our window doesn’t genuinely open until 2027 at the very, very earliest.

Regardless, as I said, Aleer doesn’t seem to be an upgrade on Caminiti even right now, so with Hammer being two years younger and having barely done an AFL preseason yet, there’s every chance he’s the better player of the two next year anyway.

He regularly played on gun KPF’s this year and wasn’t disgraced, and from at least two less games in defence than Battle, took more intercept marks than the AA KPD, more contested marks (17-11) and had a whopping 140 spoils to Battle’s 66!

Aleer isn’t better than that, surely, despite being two years older and presumably having multiple preseasons under his belt.

And I’d bet a lot of money we aren’t planning on relegating Tauru to the VFL.

What a waste of talent the GWS has been. All the free 1st rounders, all the leg ups all the favours from the AFL for one Grand Final.
Give us the same leg up and we would have 3 flags.
More Hawk fans than GWS fans at their final. They are an abject failure.

I'd low ball the offer to GWS in order to give ourselves an out-clause. He is not worth the money that we are reportedly offering him.

I wouldn't be selling the farm to get Leek Aleer, that's for sure, but how good was Finn Callaghan! Would have been worth every cent of that $1.7M we supposedly offered for him - fantastic player.

Plenty of other clubs need key defenders so surely another club comes calling.

Not that I disagree but I recall a statement, can't remember when or who said it, but basically that AFL is one of the few sports where teams are planning to win a flag in 5 years rather than next year.

We're in a relatively even era - 5 different winners the last 5 years despite a couple teams being around the mark for the whole time. But there's no Lions, Cats, Hawks or Tigers dynasty blasting everyone off the page (...yet)

Maybe now's the right time to have a crack sooner than anticipated. We've got one of the best players in the league, and one of the best coaches in the league. And a solid young core. Baby bombers, 2004 saints, last years hawks, this years Crows. It's possible to jump up quickly.

If you are forking out big bucks or picks for another club's player they should be a lock in your best 22.

I'm not convinced that Aleer will be so I don't see the point in going after him unless we get him cheap.
