2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

If a player is out of favour and wants out of the club it doesn’t matter what their previous highlights are from 2024. The seller has lowered their value and we shouldn’t be forking out a frdp.
Our asset hand is somewhat thin right now. We don’t own a 2025 second rounder and we need late picks for matching.

I reckon we are maxing our cap next year if we bring in 5. Which makes that 2026 first very important to retain

I haven't been impressed with what I've seen from Mackenzie, which is admittedly not a heap. But why would Hawthorn contemplate a trade? Doesn't make sense.

I doubt we stand in Moose’s way if Melbourne are keen, even if Melbourne offer **** all. Seems to be the done thing these days for rucks 2nd or 3rd in line.

Also wouldn’t blame him with Marshall, TDK and the emerging GOAT ruckman in Dodson debuting at AFL level in his first year. Has slogged away at Sandy for 3 or 4 (?) years.

I see the Marshall & Steele chatter has returned. Honestly, can understand the Steele chatter (despite him being captain), simply due to the midfield coming through. We need to pass the torch to Garcia, Wilson, Pou, Windhager, Nas soon. And if we land Flanders, that’s another pushing for a spot. We’ve also got Macrae for another few years and it seems we’re in an awkward spot of having to pick which of Steele and Macrae we send to centre bounces.

Yeah i don't rate him that much either, and the Hawks are desperate for an A grade midfielder, so you'd think they would have no intrest in trading him if they thought he had that potential.

Oh yeah, the year that they decided you could not get these NGAs in you were not NSW or Qld and they were in the top 20, wasn’t it?
As long as we don't lose Windy, we can bring them all in. CMac, Flanders, Aleer, Flyin Ryan and TDK.

Do you campaigners remember that trade period a number of years back where I think the most we did was a pick swap lol. What a time to be a Saint's supporter!

Definitely not pick 7 for cmac and aleer. Cmac is out of favour. Aleer played 2s for much of this year. Do we not remember how easy it is to win trades easily when a player requests a trade to a single club?
In the end, 3 of the 4 players we are interested in are contracted. Whether we like it or not, we need to satisfy their respective clubs. Aleer the only one who should be a F3rd.

The one thing SOS and Gubby (albeit he hasn't been here as long) have done, is target players from a long way out and worked on them for multple years. They spoke to TDK two years ago. Aleer chase began last season, as did Flanders two years ago. Cam McKenzie may fit that mould, that we're doing the work now, to eventually land him end of next year.

Yep, think this is more likely for Cam.

Which is exactly what a serious, professional club would do. We are in good hands.

My exact thoughts, he's easily worth 7, AA calibre and fits our game perfectly. Slots into Nas' spot on the HBF and can rotate through the middle. But GC always take unders so we can probably get him cheaper. Also, GC might not even want pick 7, theyre already shopping around their other first round picks so that they can get their 9 first round academy kids with a bunch of picks in the 40's and 50's.
Yep, suns are the easiest team to get a good deal with, cos picks don't mean anything to them because they get gifted so many academy talents, can just swing them a bunch of late picks for him

That's one estimation on the supply side.

What does the demand side look like?

Not sure how anyone can seriously be calling for their heads on here

I've been following this Club long enough (not as long as others, of course) to know when St Kilda is being run well compared with a rudderless mess that it has been in the past. Nothing is guaranteed in life, but you can see that the pillars (as RTB previously referred to) have been erected and the fruits are beginning to sound.

If Steele was to entertain a trade how do we convince him to go to another club other than GWS. I dont think GWS will fit his contract into their TPP, so it woud have to be a 3rd club.

Look, it’s not science and more hope. But Ross thinks King adds 2 goals for us. Add in Ryan.

I’d hope 2 of Howard/Aleer/Jsos* save us 2 more.

You hope natural development says we gain a goal a game in development.

5 goal swing.

Based on our season that has us anywhere between 5-9 additional wins.
Happy with the logic bht let’s also ensure it’s sustainable aka life beyond Nas and 2 years in case our
Why, or bust?

TDK and Aleer are long-term recruits.

Ryan is yes maybe 3 years. Trade cost should not be too high, or he will not join.

JSOS who may not join us is a FA and is only 27. 28 next year.

In addition, I presume that we still draft with our first round pick, and then pick at Fincher at a discount/or for free hit, and maybe Jackson Voss as FS (maybe Rookie FS).

So that is one older player, two longterm players, one medium to longterm player, and probably three kids. Ryan is the only real top-up acquisition.

Mavbe a Mystery Mid, who if they arrive will be on the youngish side and will be a longterm player.
True in age alone
If the cap is maxed and we lose Nas and the “recruits” dont pan as expected I suspect it’s gonna be hard to sell saintavre in the up
That also assumes that TDK becomes the potential we hope that Aleer hits sone heights and 29yr old Ryan steps up AND noting 27? Or so are out of contract in 2027
I like the fact they’re having a go but it feels like a lot hinges on next 2 years …it’s show time RTB

Ok this will be my last reply because we're just going in circles. If we did this, then the trade is for Flanders. We would not be trading a top 10 pick for Ryan. I don't understand why your objection to Ryan being thrown in for essentially free. We would be trading the pick for Flanders anyway. Not a soul walking this earth thinks Ryan is worth a 1st rd pick, let alone top 10, but Flanders arguably is. It sounds like you would rather trade pick 7 for Flanders and then do a seperate trade for Ryan, purely so he is not mentioned in the same sentence as pick 7 on paper. This is mad if true.
Then we move back without involving Ryan so we have a first for Flanders and another good pick we can either use at the draft or move to future years.

A contracted Macrae cost us pick 45 and is an infinitely better player. We dont need to be involving such high end picks for a player like Ryan.
