2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

I think it was Joffaboy who mentioned we can't claim we have Ryan until its done and I couldn't agree more.

Remember last year we had Soldo nominate us and we didn't go through with it based on unreasonable trade requests.

I get the sense that Ryan isn't the type who would happily go back to WC and give his all once he has checked out. I've warmed to getting him, but reckon we'll play hardball and be completely fine to walk away if WC ask too much.
There’s no world where he’s already doing a medical as an in contract player if Eagles are playing hard ball.

They’re knee deep rebuilding a list and it’s hardly in their best interests to hold onto a 29 year old player whose best footy is behind him if they’re just going to lose him for nothing a year later.

It’ll get done, and both clubs clearly have a mutual understanding around what it will entail.

It would depend on what comes of those draft picks, with the assumption they could be used on one of our trade targets. Apart from SDK, who admittedly didn't look like a star last night, I can't see many Bayside kids on that list who I'd want.
Could include another club. Getting players worth having agree to leave is another challenge as well. Guys like Dempsey or Close might be good fits.

On another note, gee Ben Long would have been handy to hang onto.

Do Swans get Curnow?
Carlton have had a season where they've clearly been in the cuck chair the whole time. If they want to have one single victory for the year, they should announce Curnow is up for trade to the highest bidder. If he doesn't want to play for Carlton so bad, so be it. We he should get to dictate where he ends up is crazy.

Twas a joke Joyce........

I'd be surprised if the Eagles haven't already essentially agreed to the trade.

No guarantee that the next TV deal is significantly more in 2032. Different ball game with DAZN buying out Kayo. We haven’t seen the impacts of that yet.
Well, if DAZN deals with Kayo like they do with their own streaming service there will be blackouts, crap quality, games not being broadcast and awful, awful overcharging and customer service.

Happy days.

I mean yeah, obvs a joke, but 16 kids were drafted before Reid so I think we’re safe, happens every year. Remember when Jaidyn Stevenson looked like the hottest recruit around and won the RS?

Alas, Trav looks the goods, keen to see how he develops.
Its the old school proper footballer argument with Reid, and probably Langford too from that draft. Could possibly be 1 & 2 in the rising star and both were criticised far too harshly for their percieved physical weaknesses in their draft year imo

I got so excited when it looked like Jaidyn might’ve slid to us after that heart rumour. Our picks didn't end up being stars not that he was available.

Trav has potential in spades, I hope he delivers over a career. Certainly won't be giving up on him thats for sure

Yeah I'm really concerned about what's going to happen when this current rights deal is up. Already DAZN is looking to exit the agreement early (Eddie McGuire ran with this - he wouldn't be wrong).

I have a really bad feeling that Fox Footy will never be as it is today. That's if it even survives in the near future.

Without Fox, the money being injected into the sport will drop dramatically. Paramount (Channel 10) might come to the party, but if they aren't bidding against Foxtel, why would they increase the money from where it's at now?

I just hope it doesn't end up spread across 3 different services. We've got it so good with Kayo right now, it's only a matter of time before the good times are over.

I refer you back to Soldo who was contracted last year and did a medical with us, but Port played hardball.

I agree with what you say about WC though, I'd suggest its all but done as well. Having said that, if they were to ask for too much, I know we'd have the balls to walk away.

Port didn't play hardball. We rejected Soldo since we weren't happy with his medical before they ever for the chance.

The issue being the medical that Soldo did, and the assessment/outcomes of said medical, as opposed to Port playing hardball.

Yeah, swings and roundabouts, 10 selected before NAZ.
Even Jack Billings was no bust, just the fact he was selected the pick before Bont. Nearly 170 games. Billings at his best would be an absolute asset in our current side.

You both are probably correct, I am just a pessimist when it comes to trade. Hell, until trade time and TDK and JSOS have officially signed, I am worried.

I believe the doctor was concerned about the amount of puffiness and instability in his knees, however the medico was shortsighted and had mistakenly examined the girlfriend’s protuberances.
