2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I still wonder if the sticking point with Windy is how the Saints see him splitting time between wing and midfield and if he (Windy wants to play more as an inside mid). Where do people see Windy's ceiling vs Box & Garcia?

It looks like next year the HBFs will be Sincs, and Clark/Hastie to get Nas into the midfield.

Midfield wise you've got Nas getting tons of minutes, then Pou, Box & Garcia getting development minutes. Steele and Macrae needed for experience. Hall has been very dynamic in there in short bursts as well. Where does it leave Windy?

Says we are going to revise our offer to Windy to keep him, Melbourne has to wait for coach to come in before approval to go after him, says initially Windy was looking to go but has revised recently and Nas re-signing helped, Moose is the big man they reference he could could join to Melbourne, said Marshall looking at Geelong and his $950K would go off our books, and simply says at end that St Kilda has no interest in trading Wilkie (Lol).
I thought Marshall's deal was heavily front loaded?

If that's the case he wouldn't be freezing up 950k next year

St Kilda will attempt to put a revised offer to midfielder Marcus Windhager to help keep the hard nut from joining Melbourne or North Melbourne.
The Saints are set to offer the 22-year-old an improved deal in a bid to secure his signature for next season amid a bumper exchange period for the club.

Says Ro could go to Geelong

And at the bottom 😂 😂

The club has no interest in trading Callum Wilkie to Western Bulldogs.
So we're trading him to another club? Sarcasm alert*

I would be interested in how this stat applies to similar players at the Saints and other clubs.

Also what the elite players rate at.

Players with 75 or more inside 50s - goal assist percentage

26%:
25%: Ned Long
24%: Bontempelli, Richards
23%:
22%: Max Hall
21%: Butters, Wanganeen-Milera
20%: Heeney, Rankine
19%: Matt Kennedy
18%: Amon, Bolton, Davies-Uniacke, Durham, Ginnivan
17%: McCluggage, O'Halloran, Petracca, Ross
16%: Anderson, Brayshaw, Crisp, Tom Green, Merrett, Pickett, Powell
15%: Will Ashcroft, George Hewett, Zorko

But it'll be at the expense of roles I believe are important.

I'm a "three genuine talls" forward guy, which means a true FF (King), a true CHF (Sharman), and a forward/ruck (Marshall).

Which leaves three other spots on the field. A leading small forward (Higgins), a high-half forward (Hall), and a pressure forward. A seventh forward starts on the bench and covers all positions (Owens).

I don't see the role for Ryan unless it is at the expense of our height (which has undoubtedly been an issue for ball retention), or one of our better players having their role diminished or replaced (Higgins, Hall, Owens).
Marshall will be 30 next season, and i wouldn't be surprised for Keeler to have a breakout season.

So reheating last week's news for clicks in other words :tearsofjoy:

For mine Windy has a spot in there at the opening bounce.

Garcia gets rotations and may need to spend some time in the VFL still as a part of his development. Boxshall comes in for injuries or to reward good form but isn't a key part of the engine room yet.

I don't think there's anything that suggests Boxshall or Garcia have significantly higher ceilings than Windhager, so while he continues to be more consistent, it should be his spot IMO.

I think our combo is dependent about what we are trying to achieve...

Game Saving Mode: Macrae, Windy, Garcia
Balanced Mode: Nas, Macrae, Windy
Game Winning Mode: Nas, Windy, Hall

So the Melbourne stuff has been laughed and mocked by people on a podcast reading directly from a Wilks text, Roh could go to Geelong, umm not news, and we aren't getting Aanders, Richards and 5 top 10 fps for Wilkie as he wont be traded 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow, all breaking.

So if we land all our targets we will have 44 on the list. Which means we need to shed at least 3 more before the draft? Is that right?

Do we have to upgrade any rookies? Caminiti?
yep Caminiti needs to be upgraded which I believe counts as one of our 3 mandatory national draft picks

in terms of the primary list (McLennan and Boyd were rookies) I believe it currently looks like

7 in: TDK, JSOS, Aleer*, Ryan*, ND1, ND2 (Fincher?), ND3 (Caminiti)
--
2 out: Webster, Cordy
6 out of contract: Heath, Jones, Byrnes, Carroll, Schoenmaker, Windhager

assuming we keep Windy, we will need to delist or trade all the others to have space for the players who have nominated

of course that can change if Windy/Marshall/Steele etc are traded. but in any case if we want to add Flanders or Mackenzie it will mean moving on one of them

Windy is versatile, played mid, Wing, tagger and HBF this year, and the way AFL is played now, all but 3 forwards and 3 backs, essentially just form a huge mobile grid. He's one of our best gameday runners.

I want to keep him, I think his kicking issues are a little overblown, he's shown he can play at the level, now it's on the coaches to drill him to be the best player for the team.

his off field stuff only adds to his value

As of next season I'd like to see Hall, Nas & Pou in the guts full-time.
Ideally Henry & Wilson take the wings, although l obviously like Wilson HF.
I actually prefer Windy in the backline, where he can tag the oppo small forwards
His general kicking is an issue though, not bad/not great.
I seriously hope we rookie  Jackson Voss, think we could use his precise kicking in our backline
He's built like Hall abit actually.

the other one with a question mark is Dow, who is still considered on primary list above. missed his trigger but apparently we were going to offer him another contract. there's been nothing official from the club yet, possible that we rookie him instead?
Official on Dow

I wouldn’t say I was negative just cautious and I think that those who aren’t happy have some valid points.
i certainly wasnt referring to you, sorry to say but i have no real read on the trend/direction of your posts re our decision making, youve not stood out,i only felt compelled to point out re that one comment, the on and on and on guys, one of which i finally did see after i posted that he at least put up an alternate suggestion
