2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

A noble sentiment. But seriously, f*** Essendon. Same category as Carlton AFAIC. Any hardship, humiliation or unravelling that occurs - excellent.
I get that that. And privately I have to admit I feel that as well.

But for the sake of the competition, seeing languishing and vulnerable clubs picked apart like vultures scavenging over a carcass is a shocking look.

Especially when the player is contracted and a club captain.

Sam Mitchell seems to have no shame or boundaries about dealing one-on-one with players from other clubs.

As Brad Scott said, the world is changing and the gloves are now off.

It would be interesting regarding JUH. It would be a fine edge with disrupting our culture..BUT two main factors I recon,

He must want to change his ways and drop the dead beats he currently hangs around with and our playing group has to be on board with it.

Maybe a third - our support and culture has to be able to actually be strong enough to support him ie: Geelong and a few of their players.

But essentially comes down to the individual
themselves if it works or not.
re Geelong

what ever happened to Tanner Bruhn ?

For the sake of the game it isn’t a good look when contenders are peeling off the best players from any club languishing near the bottom of the ladder.

Essendon are genuinely at a tipping point now. They could easily spiral down from here.
I'd actually let him go now, got a pay rise last year on the back of us approaching and now wants to walk.
Bugger Essendon, but stuff Merrett.

let him walk and become a mercenary, what's he gain now by going to Hawks, like Lynch, won't be remembered by most as a flag winner; rather, a bloke who ran to win one, and absolutely trash any chance of Essendon honouring him as a club great.

Sell him, get what you can, it's going to be tough, but keep building with the kids

Its the old story "you lay down with dogs you get fleas"!

The fact that his direct involvement hasnt been reported doesnt mean he is not up to his ears in shyte. He is no different to Didak etc mixing with bikies and dealers nothing good comes of that. The only reason you would entertain taking him on would be if he agreed to a curfew and no contact clauses in his contract.
Geez you are full of these adages haha.

Would you say he is 'as dumb as a bag of hammers' too? :tearsofjoy:

So Jamarra's next instagram story directly after training with Brad Hill is him sitting in the CSM (Paul Connors agency) office, who represent him. This is getting worrying 😂

**** it, high risk, high reward. We have the best indigenous welfare program in the league. It may be just what he needs.

I don't know if we would have to give up anything.

The dogs seem like they'll be happy to just get rid of him.

They might delist him and just pay him out.
I think they were looking to void his contract (noting they paid him for this year) with some settlement to reduce their cap hit next year.

I think that seems fair, there has to be performance clauses in the contract and hes clearly not even coming to training etc.

Do wonder if the dogs/afl would de register him ala Taryn Thomas

Yes Mat, I’m leaning towards agreeing with you.

Merrett asked for more money last year after Saints pursued him. Bombers looked after him and here we are again 12 months later. Pretty bloody ordinary IMO.

If Essendon buckle again it will be rinse and repeat next year.

Trouble is Bombers lack talent and senior players. And if they hold firm, Merrett could easily sook it up. So in some respect Merrett has them over a barrel.

Maybe Bombers just need to rip the band-aid off.

There could be some smoke with the Jamarra link.. I think Sydney seems like a better place away from those in Melbourne however, St Kilda now has a robust support for players, Danny Frawley centre, indigenous support and mentorship. Only issue is would he be far enough away from outside influence like he would be if he went to Sydney.

Not for nothing, but this is another reason why Nas re-signing was so important. List wise the Bombers appear in a death spiral. OTOH, we are building for a crack with the foundation set in place. Because Nas is staying.

i did a search on him 2 or 3 days ago when i posted a list of likely players the cats would cough up in a marshall trade,as well as ones that could interest us,he was one of 6 i cut it down to

there is accusations, i didnt delve too deeply beyond that, but thats what i found
