2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Marshall, Curnow linked to Geelong
Steele linked to Filth
Draper, Ridley and Allan to Lions
Merrett, Petracca linked to Hawthorn.

The 4 prelim teams, AFL isn't broken at all.
The thing is, you’ll never stop players nominating successful clubs. They all want success right?
The AFL needs to come up with a system that doesn’t completely hamstring the club that loses the player or better yet, make it a truly even competition.

Until then, players will always nom the big clubs.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if the clubs got together at some stage to try and wrest some of the power back from players and managers. It has swung far too far in their direction. But it’s going to take every club being on the same page to undo it.
Which is why it won't ever happen, just like Western manufacturing prices etc. Someone will always work for less pay, pay more for players, someone is always more desperate and willing to break ranks

I'm so confused by this Wilkie situation. So the Dogs think they can convince him to request a trade, how do they then think it gets done? He'd be an enormous loss for us so we'd need a huge overs deal surely? I just don't get it, he's clearly a player we need and we obviously want to move up the ladder next year.

Hanging shit on Steele wont fly with me mate. Take it somewhere else
No clue how you could decipher my comment as hanging shit on Steele, Mr. Sanctimonious, I am very clearly aiming it at Collingwood.

Steeles been a warrior, doesn’t change the fact he’s 30 and slow and will be hanging it up in the next few years, the exact same time as all of the Pies other players, hence them falling off a cliff. Stop being so precious.

Their board thinks draft picks. But they also think they are some mini up and coming powerhouse at the same time.

Is this in response to Steele?
Absolute knucklehead post if so.
If not, please disregard and apologies.
Pretty clearly sarcasm. Forgot that’s not allowed here. No, we should not trade Jack Steele to the pies for literally nothing just to add to the Pies aging list. The comment was about Steeles age and the pies list, not his skills, leadership or character.

Steele to the pies is a horrible list decision, they need young talent, not another slow midfielder towards the end of their career. If they want to offer us something of relative value for Steele then I would be happy to oblige.

Yes and no, they still have the 2 Daicos' and Ned Long, with Demattia and others in the 2s. If you look at Pendlebury who's 37 and Mitchell at 32, Steele can still play 3-4 years in their system. What Collingwood gets right is that they know midfield is the key, so they have lots of experienced and good mids in there, 1 or 2 good mids just not enough. That's why we should get as many good young mids like Flanders, Mackenzie as possible.. 1 more doesn't move the needle enough.

Agree with what you said. Bulldogs are stacked in the forward line and midfield. With key back their only weakness, Beveridge is under pressure after missing on finals this year. Think they'll come hard bearing gifts, for example Sanders + Freija + JUH (only if we want him, and dogs pay half of his salary), would we do it?
Naughton (Blackman imo) Freija I’m taking a look….
Sanders will head to Tas
Dogs will fold - Naughton sleeps under Bevos bed

The Daicos boys are obviously guns but look at most of their best players. Pendles, Sidebottom, Crisp, Howe, De Goey, Mitchell (can’t get a gig atm), Mihocek, Elliot, Moore will all be 30+ next season. That’s a massive contingent of your side on their last legs, not everyone can and will play until late 30s like Pendles. And like it or not Steele is definitely regressing the last few years, his body is failing him unfortunately because he’s on of my favourite Saints.

And Long is like a way inferior version of Steele (in his prime at least). Much like Macrae and Steele didn’t really work I doubt Long and Steele will.

They know
This is salary squeeze/unsettle us is what it is
It’s not realistic
We should offer Darcy 5m

What do we reckon we get from the Dees for Moose? 3rd round pick? If we want to bring in Ryan, Aleer & potentially Flanders, seems like we’re going to need to find some more capital.

Isn’t it also to do with the fact the weather conditions (wind, freezing conditions etc) make playing football incredibly more difficult.

Hawthorn and Adelaide played there mid season. They kicked 6.11 to 5.14
I’m not sure about this, the Buffalo Bills are building a stadium with no roof and they have the snow and the wintery conditions of the NE USA. Notwithstanding we’ve played matches at UTas Stadium across the years without any attention. The match in question was scheduled at night by the AFL, I wonder why??
The WA and QLD have warmer conditions in their states, which is their home ground advantage. Perhaps the TAS Devils stadium without roof is their home ground advantage just like it is for the Buffalo Bills

Same way we pumped up the salaries for guys like Merrett and Weitering, Im sure thats all Dogs are trying to do to us.

They are dirty over JSOS and want us to fill up our cap on existing players.

Wilkie will never get done, but he will get paid and thats exactly the revenge they are after.

Will he though. Might get a bump with the captaincy but will be 3 to 4 hundred k short of the Bulldog offer.
If he wants the bump to 900- 1 mill extend for a couple, otherwise take your chances OOC at 32.

They got a Friday night match in the middle of June. With 2 of the best sides in it.

I think it showcased exactly why a roofed stadium is required.

Lions have the system clocked.
Get father sons/ academy players for cheap and then target FAs. Broken system

Fair enough Bob.
Apologies for jumping the gun - have deleted the previous post.

People are very much backing their own. Look at Hird batting for Zach Merret! (Reminded me of Senator Geary in court in Godfather II. ‘I have to leave for an appointment, but before I do, let me say that Italian migrants are the lifeblood of this country… bla bla) Look At Patrick Dangerfield, ‘nah, we will never accept a different contract system like where contracts are carried over..bla bla’ (bolstering his capital for post-career ? - wearing his Players Association cap)
Lame Turd is an an-apologetic drug cheat. NEVER forget this.

Replace Pendlebury who's 38 next year. Steele is 30 next year, 8 years younger. Collingwood likes their veterans especially in the midfield. Sidebottom (35), Degoey (30), Crisp (32), Mitchell (33), Hoskin-Elliott (32). It actually makes sense for them and Steele, but Collingwood wouldn't have any draft capital to give us unless there's a young player that we want.
Pendles and Steele almost on the same sentence, makes me all like…

It’s clickbait. No need for confusion, or even any attempt to comprehend. It’s all billocks.
