2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

What do we reckon we get from the Dees for Moose? 3rd round pick? If we want to bring in Ryan, Aleer & potentially Flanders, seems like we’re going to need to find some more capital.
If we get everyone we are targeting, I think it will look something like
Steele, pick 7, future 2nd and future 3rd out, Flanders, Mackenzie, Ryan and Aleer in

They got a Friday night match in the middle of June. With 2 of the best sides in it.

I think it showcased exactly why a roofed stadium is required.
Sorry, that’s a scheduling issue by the AFL not an infrastructure issue. But more so, we are basing one match’s weather conditions to build a stadium with a roof. When the same matches in the same wintry conditions can be played at the MCG without a question nor the outpouring for a roof? Or perhaps it’s the heat in Perth? Like I said, the Buffalo Bills nor the NFL seem to have an issue with their open stadium.

It’s about capacity (supply) to attend a match if the tourists are not there because the shit weather means the tourists (demand) drastically reduces by sitting in the rain.

Shit weather and sitting in the rain, the average rainfall for Hobert isn’t too dissimilar to Melbourne. UTas Stadium across the years hasn’t been an issue.
The reality is, find an AFL size Stadium with roof across the globe that has been successful?

I agree. Hawks have been a bit shady talking to Merrett, now they want to underpay because the Bombers have to trade him because it’s untenable for him to stay. We copped the Hawks method with Battle last year. I’m really starting to dislike the way they are going about obtaining players
Only now your disliking them

People state the fact we are the second driest capital city in Australia as the rationale for no roof. Whilst that is true, when winter hits the air is wet and dew settles almost every night.
Add to the fact that the roaring 40s wind gets up in August, so it can be windy and damp, particularly near the waterfront. So a roof is definitely a good option.
It is a nice place though. I promise 😂

They can always forward on whatever they get for Petracca

If Wilkie is still agitating for more money because recruits are being paid well and he is unhappy about it then I don’t think it’s is a great reflection of character.

He would have asked for the term of the contract and agreed to the money before he was even worth that amount.

We can’t just start renegotiate with every player that out performs their contract. It would suggest Wilkie’s talk of wanting keep growing into a contender is actually just word salad.

Hold him regardless. I think his athleticism (lack of) will hamper his ability to play at this level from 32 onwards. Signing Wilkie till he is 34 is every bit as reckless as what we have offered JSOS and Ryan.

Back in the day the club stuck to their guns with Luke Ball, and it didn't go our way. Its very different when Wilkie is contracted though. If contracted players start to want to leave, what happens with front loaded contracts ? .

Front loaded contracts become dead and another equalisation measure goes by the wayside.

Have watched enough of Cam over the last 4-5 seasons. He's a smart footballer, scans the field when he has ball in hand, and makes good decisions. Something we don't have much of in our brigade of young mids.
And we are still desperate for midfielders. Although having NAS full time in the midfield willhelp

They could be tempted by something like that. Not a bad return for a 30 year old.

We'd be tempted by Ed Richards.

Unlikely to happen though. Dogs are still salty that we bid on Ayce Cordy.

With all of our Jacks, surely they should've realised we'd be keen on an Ayce
The true conspiracy theory is that the President of the Dogs, who is married to the the Sandringham CEO is less than happy with the Saints. ;)

But in reality, the Dogs are desperate.

Can't believe you actually believe that.

The AFL deliberately scheduled it to try and make a point but amazingly they've happily played up to 8 games a year in Tassie for the last 25 years.

If they were actually concerned about the quality of the "product" they would have brought out the screen for this shocker on a dry night in an unroofed stadium.

100%. You don’t agree to terms on a contract and then get halfway through and decide it’s not good enough. He should have signed a 2 year contract and backed himself in, no doubt the club would have given him 2 years.

Club may have to send another copy of the contract across the ditch

Windy, the first player to get a ground ball get 10,000 feet in the air. Really taking his game to another level 😆
