2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

If we pay Aleer, Ryan and JSOS 800k but baulk at meeting Windy's terms, SOS gets a vote of no confidence from me.

Marcus is home grown, part of the group, much more than a role-player, he is a leader and it is absolute madness to haggle while we're trying to get all these other good but but great players through the door. I would even rather Windy than TDK. His stats aren't flash, he does turn a few over, but that boy is the glue in so much of our better play. He is genuine 360° two-way player He must be retained and if that costs us a Cam McKenzie or Liam Ryan type I'm absolutely fine with that.

If Windy signs, then they can bring back Andrew Lovett for all i care, but get our number 2 done now!

If he doesnt this will be another Luke Ball moment for us.

Sam Walsh looked amazing those last 2 games…… get it done 🆘. Right after JSOS. Then that’s enough, that’s enough Carlton.

How much would Geelong gain by replacing Rhyce Stanley with Rowan Marshall?

(Bait warning acknowledged.)

But there IS a serious element to my question

Not much. But if Stanley retires then they need a replacement

Angus McLennan DELISTED -> TDK
Arie Schoenmaker ?
Dougal Howard EXTENDED
Harry Boyd DELISTED -> 1RDP
Isaac Keeler EXTENDED
Jack Carroll (UFA) ?
Jimmy Webster (UFA) RETIRED -> Fincher
Liam O'Connell EXTENDED
Liam Stocker (UFA) EXTENDED
Marcus Windhager ?
Max Heath ?
Ryan Byrnes ?
Zaine Cordy (UFA) DELISTED -> 4RDP
Zak Jones ?

I'm guessing we may know more this time tomorrow.

By the sounds of it we'll need a few more list spots freed up.

I know they’re positionally different.

But if we offer Aleer or JSos $600k+ and still don’t give it to Windy, we’re just going backwards.

At some point you have to focus on building the fabric and culture, not just bringing in mercenaries.
Mercenaries like Gehrig ,Hamill & Lawrence nice avatar.

We won't be targeting a player that costs our first. Walsh would cost multiple first round picks. If he's leaving you wait until free agency next year, but he said he wants to stay so probably will sign and extension.

Roma is a massive, massive upgrade on Stanley and I’m saying that as someone who doesn’t think he can play ones at the saints next year.

Fierce competitor, great extra defender/intercept and a good field kick.

Geelong should be into him.

Eddie Ford delisted. a few on here had some wraps for him if I remember correctly. wonder what Clarko didn't like about him?

Feels like we’re 80% through the build and instead of being patient and sitting through the last 20% we’re just going all gas no brakes

Seems like people are starting to catch onto what's (probably) going on here.

Just to run through the numbers again:

- The maximum amount the Saints can possibly have banked to carry forward and pay above the cap is $3.1m excess to spend over the next 4 years.

- A max of just over $900k/year which would use up most within 3 years.

- We're paying Nas $2mil /year and reportedly TDK $1.8m early years then decreasing later in the contract.

- The cap itself only increases slightly in 2026 and 2027.

Given these circumstances, it makes sense we'd need to tighten the belt with some contract renegotiations.

We're already seeing the consequences of St Kilda's big cash splash on new players.
