2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Incase you forgot, we were having lunches with Tarryn Thomas.

Would have thought Lyon would have remembered the lesson of Lovett.

There is risk and then there is unwarranted risk.

Would think that Hollands needs to get things squared away before many clubs would look at him.
The fact that Carlton themselves are encouraging him to look elsewhere says a lot.

Keep in mind. I’m not saying it’s factual.

I’m saying based off his history if we have a list spot open, Ross will look.

  • Ben Cousins
  • Andrew Lovett
  • Colin Sylvia
  • Harley Bennell
  • Tarryn Thomas

None of the above had things squared away.

So how many had a positive impact at their club when they moved?

I don't need goodie too shoes but hell there needs to be some minimum standard.

Agreed. But evidently he is a coach who wants talent and wants to try and support those with issues.

So if we have a list spot open- it’s highly likely he looks. It would be the least surprising outcome if we had Tom Morris break that Hollands and us meet.

The only problem with that is that half a dozen injuries/missed pre-seasons to the wrong players and the Ferrari has no engine........

With his new additions he's going to be under a lot more scrutiny. Essendon were absolutely crippled but they were still held to account. I think he needs to at least be unlucky to miss finals if not play them next year. The new players should give us a lot more cover for injury too.

Surely it’s minimum make the 8

Totally correct. I have said previously that I give Lyon a Mulligan for this year, but two things have to change going forward.
1. The players talk about getting a winning culture. Well that includes winning when the pressure is on. No point going 2 -10 then winning most games in the back end of the season when the season is shot. Might give the supporters a bit of a fuzzy feeling but that's it. We have done this twice in a row.
2. Even if we get a couple of the mooted players through the door, this is now Lyon's list. A fit King, Howard, Pou, and Henry, all virtually unseen this year and natural development of a dozen kids means he has to deliver.
He had been critisised for a dour defensive game. Well he has had three years to put his defensive game in place. It leaked this year because of the loss of Battle and key injuries. With Howard back, and maybe both Aleer and JSOS coming back, with Tauru getting games, the backline looks stronger. Time for us to get our attacking game inside 50 corrected. A fit King and Ryan, plus options like TDK, and Hammer forward should do that.
No Mulligan next season. Time to deliver.

I was listening to SEN the other day and there was a guy reviewing sides year. Could have been the strategy guy or Adam Simpson. Said we were below average in every aspect except for converting our inside 50 entries. Funny how it feels like we turn over everything that gets sent into our forward line. We had a really low inside 50 numbers but converted the ones that we did have in the top few in the comp.

Exact type of mid we were missing, can find the ball (All of our mids apart from Macrae can’t), is clean (All of our mids apart from Macrae can’t), has composure and good skills (dito again). Get him in..

Even just to be able to switch up him and Nas would be massive. Have them rotate off HBF with spells on ball. Looks quite exciting.

Fair effort considering the lack of targets down there.

It all makes sense why we were so undersized down back and up forward across most of the season.

Because the issue is going to be rectified in this off-season and through natural development of some players.

Everything sounds strange when you only hear half of it.

We were probably only prepared to offer him the money he wanted (eg 800k/year or whatever) for 2 years max.
So we did.

If we've since upped it to 4 years, we've either totally caved- or simply offered him less per year than he wanted.

Id be surprised if we totally caved given he's the messy/defensive mid we have a glut of.

But if we did totally cave- it could mean that we've suddenly got confident with moving steele on I'd reckon.
A lot of guesses here from you, but I think you are over complicating it.

It was reported that we were offering 2 years at just over 500k so not the 800k you are suggesting.

Fact is, he's too good of a footballer to be offering two year deals too, so hardly surprising to see he is looking more likely now we have offered him the four.

Going to throw this out there.

But if we miss on Cmac. I could see Ross - with his past history in players.

Looking at Elijah Hollands.

He'd want to be very cheap but looked very good early on at the Blues.

Delicious.

or we’ve been thinking about it wrong this whole time. Tony isn’t just one person, but something more, a cabal, a network… a feeling. Tell me honestly you haven’t felt tony inside of you these past few months. He’s been inside… all of us
maybe the real tony was the friends we made along the way
