2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Sorry but if I'm Wilke I'm taking it , he is 29 and has what 4 years left to earn some decent cash , i know he has something to fall back onto when footy is over but 4.5 Mill is life changing.

So your on say $100,000 in your current job and some bloke walks in and offers you $150,000 to do the same job , you're not going to seriously think about it ?
Well he should have asked for more when he signed his current contract which ends at end of 2027

Not sure if any NBA followers here but very humorous seeing a major partner of the LA Clippers offering Kawhi Leonard an ambassadorial role worth $28 million (said company now embroiled in fraudulent activity and bankruptcy)

St Kilda mafia will talk straight to Wilkie and say "here's an extension, plus here's a $5 million contract for your logistics company to move Jayco caravans around the country"

You cant castigate Wilkie's manager, when NWM's manager just eeked out a 2M per year contract using the same tactics. I thought it was interesting Nas decided to stay a month before he signed, yet his manager played SOS and we kept upping the offer.

Wilkie is not an unreasonable individual but the club need to pay him what he is due. If the club thought they could pay some individuals well over market value and not expect others to want their slice of the pie, then they would be mistaken.
Nas was out of contract,Wilkie isnt

If you are Wilkie then you know that you are:
1/ Contracted already for 26 an 27
2/ Have been given some extra $$$ already this year on top of your contract
3/ Will also know that the club will soon start negotiations on extending your contract beyond the next two seasons which will lead to extra $$$.

Well you are probably not contracted and so are free to walk.
Mind you your employer is also free to retrench you at any time too.

Wilkie in talks with the club on an extension. Manager being a pos and using Bulldogs offer as leverage.
All the managers will.
They’re all looking to take advantage of our current riches.
It is their job I suppose.

Not wasting one minute worrying about Wilkie.
I’m 100% sure he’s not going anywhere.

Twomey made me laugh on SEN this morning.

- Wilkie, Dogs are making him think. They shot their shot the moment they lost JSoS. Saints won’t want to lose him.

And then straight into Merrett

- No Essendon won’t lose him. None story.

😂 How are they any different?!?
Cal Twomey is an Essendon fanboy always has been similar to Sam Edmond lacks journalistic integrity when it comes to their own teams .

Its not easy getting rid of people these days, they near have to kill someone in order for you to be able to sack them , but yes most people don't have a contract where they are locked in for a certain time frame.

Don't so sure.

All of the below are examples where players requested a trade and were denied and held to their contracts.
  • Rory Lobb - Contracted to Fremantle, requested trade back to GWS
  • Bobby Hill - Contracted to GWS, requested trade to Essendon
  • Josh Dunkley - Contracted to Western Bulldogs, requested trade to Essendon
  • Joe Daniher – Contracted to Essendon, requested trade to Sydney
  • Tom Papley – Contracted to Sydney, requested trade to Carlton
  • Tim Kelly – Contracted to Geelong, requested trade to West Coast.(got done the year after)
  • Bryce GibbsContracted to Carlton, requested trade to Adelaide. (got done the year after)
  • Cameron McCarthyContracted to GWS, requested trade to Fremantle. (got done the year after as he sat out entire 2016 season)
These are the ones I can think of but there are more.
We denied Stuv’s request to Geelong the first time, I believe.

Don't tell that to the people that wanted to delist Zaine Cordy before the mid-season draft :tearsofjoy:

Callum Wilkie spotted doing the rounds at moorabbin parks after taking a "paycut" to continue playing with the saints

Yeah not sure Edmund leading the 'Bias Carlton call' for SEN during the season did perceptions of impartiality any favours.

Who is the best journo at not knowing who they barrack for? Riley Beveridge? Josh Gabelich?

Beveridge is a Carlton nuffie isn’t he?

Hmm I could get behind this.

Every Melbourne club splits their home games between the G and Marvel
And we think we’ve seen an outcry from the clubs so far….
It would be hilarious to watch.
As someone posted previously, there’d be more salt than in the Dead Sea!

I do agree that JSOS body is a concern but sometimes a player needs a new environment (and probably some nice farm land while wearing Cotton On sports active gear) to get their body right, like Jack Martin did at Geelong.
We saw it firsthand with Wood.
Completely different player with us.

… I HIGHLY doubt the difference in what he will earn at the saints, and what he will earn at the dogs will be life changing.
The one thing about Wilkie and money is that he was a late starter on base wage.
He may feel a bit left behind players of his age across career earnings.
Not saying he does, or even should, cos he might still be an accountant except for St Kilda. Who knows?

Thanks Cho.
Shows it’s all in the timing.
Could’ve got a lot in a trade for him if we’d let him go when he first asked.

I’m wondering whether the same will happen if we keep Ro now and then trade him after a year if it’s not working.

Sliding doors decisions.
