2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Yeh im certainly not saying weve ignored the traditional rebuild, weve clearly done that for the core but with all the targets were looking at mass change this year.

If (and its a big if) we get all the realistic targets then its TDK, Aleer, JSOS, Ryan, C-Mac and Flanders. Thats 6, thats 1/3rd of our starting 18.

Throw in that Pou and King should be back and thats 8 guys who likely played a big of footy this year back to the twos.

The concerns would be guys like Boxxy, Garcia, Collard etc. up and leaving at seasons end.

Now that might be okay, all the imports are good but you have to question how much of our drafting was a waste if were just gonna supplant them with trades/FA's.

Ive always thought Trades/FA's were supposed to compliment what you draft, were going away from that model a bit.
Firstly, that wasn’t aimed at you, just the Tom Morris’ of the world.

Trades are supposed to compliment our drafting, and I think we’re filling gaps with those we’re getting in.

I do think possibly we’re going ahead a little more swiftly than perhaps we planned, but we now have a NAS timeline to consider.

Boxy, Garcia and hopefully Collard will all be getting plenty of games next season, so I do t think they’re going to be rushing anywhere. Collards already got a longish contract, and pretty sure they’ll extend Boxy at the end of his second year. Not sure where Garcia stands. None of them should be demanding huge money as yet.

Edit: I overlooked what you were saying about fitting them all in - and you have a point. But Byrnes more than likely gone or demoted. Wood was showing his age. Hill too. I wonder if they’ll be getting guaranteed games.
I’m more concerned with Hastie, Barret, LOC and Said. Having said that ( pun intended) playing vfl, especially a Saints team won’t do them any harm. Everyone will have to earn their spots - a good dilemma I guess and one we haven’t had for a long time.

Which Star player do you honestly think is up for grabs that we need to get all these draft picks for?
Zach Merrett of course.

Guess the eagles might need draft picks again 🤪

Surely Carlton wouldnt give up an early pick for him - perhaps their end of first round compensation for Silvagni.

So an update on Windy from an unlikely source aha
But the latest episode of the Dan Gorringe Podcast (DDF) that dropped today had them discussing it and Ollie Geale (Saints Gameday Announcer and MC) who's a member of the podcast just showed Gorringe messages that he's been sending to Windhager and seems very confident that Windy is staying.

Ollie showed Gorringe the messages between him and Windhager and whilst they didnt show the content of the messages, Gorringe laughed and straight up just said "Yeah i think the Melbourne news isnt true". Dismissed it as a complete joke

Seems as if this is just more maneouvering by Windhager's agent

Earlier on, Ollie also stated that Liam Ryan had messaged him over a month ago (before Liam Ryan was even on the radar) regarding the culture and atmosphere of the club and its fans, and was seemingly following saints re-signing nasiah very closely.

This is all in the first 22 minutes of the podcast, if anyone else wants to hear it and confirm what I'm saying. The stuff about Windhager is specifically from minutes 19 to 22

They seemed very confident and firsthand messages are way more reliable than the old heads on SEN

Here's the clip, seems pretty cut and dry

Hubnester Mat Mann why don’t we have one of those?

Meh, it's in the rules and most reasonable people know it's not tolerated. If people come here to troll, a stickied post isn't going to stop them. The volume so far has been manageable, as long as everyone reports the posts instead of replying to them, then it's easy to deal with quickly.

Okay.

As long as any punishment is equal to that any saints poster cops elsewhere

Guys if we were willing to let Nas go to the preseason draft cause he was uncontracted.

Wilkie who is contracted would need to go to The Hague to escape us lmao.

Looks like they're snowflakes over there - who cares if someone drops in to troll? We're all big enough and ugly enough, we can take it.
Well a couple are already posting here or laughing at some of our posts and on their boards they are the biggest cucks you’ll see hiding behind mods.

Just want fairness for our posters.

15 non rucks on that list with a very good chance 13 of them are at the club next season. Four are probably HBFs so that leaves Macrae, Steele, Garcia, Boxshall, Windhager, Pou, Wilson, Hall and Carroll (knock him out too).

I'm fine with Steele and Hall swapping as the high-half forward, but if Ryan comes in, he takes one of those spots on the team. Or Higgins'. Or Owens'. Or the pressure forward. Or the third tall.

(BTW, in my mind midfielder does not necessarily equal centre bounce attendee. Any non back/forward/ruck is a midfielder. Some play inside, some play outside, some do both.)
Yes, wasn't the point I was making, could've cut the screen grab at probably Clark.

But if we look at the share of CBA I think we'll see a reduction in any or all of
Steele - gone, or played more fwd
Macrae
Jones - gone or VFL
Clark - moved to HBF or VFL

Exactly. I think it's once again the manager squeezing whatever he can and it'll get done in due course. If Windy is set on a bigger pay check or becoming a centre clearance mid then it may just be a matter that he has to look elsewhere.
He took the N° 2 locker for a reason, it would have to be serious disillusionment fir him to abandon rhe club and his mates surely?

I’m not happy. Two alerts from afl.com today were players did NOT nominate StKilda. I blame SOS and Lyon and the culture for some reason. Can the Dali Lama help us here?
I think SoS should be shown the door and the Deli Lamp should be the new list boss.

Personally don't give a shit about "fairness". We're tougher than them, if they need coddling and hand-holding from their mods then fine, they can have it.
