2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I obviously misheard the figure. Still would rather they pissed off and looked elsewhere.
I think them being pleased with chasing a player that will not be traded under any circumstances is baffling.

"Yeh the saints are thrilled to be chasing Harley Reid in spite of him being contracted and West Coast demanding NAS, King and TDK in a trade package".

Sounds like eutopian thinking.
Could Aleer offer a chop out in the ruck with his leap?
I dont hate it but rotating backmen through the ruck is really hard structurally.

I think this is a bit misleading on two fronts

His actual hitout win % is very low (third-lowest ahead of Marshall and Flynn), so he is mid-pack when it comes to HTA per ruck contest.

Secondly the stat is skewed by the games he played with Pittonet where he was up against part timers. From memory Marshall's HTA per ruck contest when he was playing with Ryder was 11-12%, as primary ruck it falls to 7-8%

All that said I am not that fussed and think he is a good acquisition, on the proviso we trade Marshall for a decent return. Teams who win the HTAs only win 49% of games or something like that. It's everything else he does that is equally or more important

Yeah, I remember my Blues family saying they weren't that worried about TDK potentially going because they win more games with Pittonet as first ruck last year. They seem bit more devastated this season now it's real though.

They will soon. Got to spend a week preparing a chase for someone actually gettable.

But notice the reporting is all from the dogs side. No mention of anything from the Wilkie camp. It's just filler because they are running out of interesting trade stories.

Love the genius level intellect by our friend on the pugs board.

“Two firsts without even thinking about it. This year’s first is meh.”

So why the **** would we want a “Meh” first?!?!

😂 😂
Love the complete misrepresentation from them on what i said too.

Two GOOD firsts, as in top 5, which you dont have and cant get would be the bare ****ing minimum.

Of course theyd trade their two current firsts, who wouldnt.

I guess it's payback for us doing it.

Gabelich just said Wilkie is still in play for the Dogs. Willing to go above the $1.5 million already offered. It could be that we lose Wilkie and the two end up fortunate additions.
So what are the Bulldogs offering in a trade? How do they propose to get it done?

Picks and off-cuts won’t cut the mustard. Has to be a top 2-3 player on their list.

The fact that Wilkie is in play for the Dogs is irrelevant.

Contracted. Required.

My blues supporting mates tried to tell me JSOS should have been delisted so theyre happy the campaigner is gone.

The coping mechanisms are in full effect down at Princes Park.

Draft picks in isolation are irrelevant.

It’s going to have to be a blue chip player to accompany them.

They ain’t trading Bont, Darcy, Richards, Croft and likely Freijah.

But they are precisely the players we would want. There isn’t anything else worth even contemplating a trade - in the absolute hypothetical event Wilkie wanted to go.

Funny thing with Windy is I thought the Boss would really dig him as a player. Hard worker, versatile, potential leader etc. From all the rumours it seems the club don't value him as highly as a few of us might have expected. Thinking maybe our latest offer was something like $650k, norf and dees around $800k, and if we come up the $50k difference that was mentioned to $700k then it's done. Maybe it's done anyway at 650, either way still think (hope) he stays.

It's all about balance in the midfield.

If we are offering windy 4 years- it's not that we don't rate him.

It's just that with him, macrae and steele- we are at risk of falling into the dees trap of having too many scrubby, contested mids in our best 22- and not enough class and polish.

All of viney, petracca, oliver and (previously) brayshaw are/were gun players individually.

But as a group- too much sausage, not enough sizzle.
I'm convinced that we are withholding money from windy- because we reckon players with more sizzle/class like pou, garcia, boxshall could well go past him in the next couple of years.

I wouldnt even include Friejah TBH, i like him but hes a tier below those others.

This is the impasse, Wilkie is worth way too much to us to consider trading unless the offer is miles over and the dogs trading any of those probably drops them off contention.

Cant happen for either party, their apparent contract offer to him is irrelevant.

Just appears to be them shooting their shot.

They wouldn’t be needing a godfather offer if he was keen. Yes he may be disgruntled and they are trying to tug on that element.

But no different to us and Merrett last year I suppose.

Either way, they can agree whatever they want. That’s the easy part.

It’s the sos Gubby Ross part where they ask for the world and they won’t part with it
The FC or Agenda Setters interview he did after NAZ signed was a little unsettling about how hard nosed he would have been in a trade.
He said it would have been 'catastrophic' and it would have got 'nasty' and ' there are some players you just don't trade'

I got from that NAZ was heading for the PSD and probably WCE rather than Adelaide or Port.

I think Lyon is a man of his word and coupled with ' a good club doesn't trade their good contracted players', I think WB could offer him 2 million guaranteed over 10 with Wilkie requesting the trade and he would say no.
They would have to literally offer Richards, Sanders and a top 10 pick ( which they would never do) and I think SoS just hangs up the phone.
Lyon has form, did the no trade with Ball. Concerned what he does in 2 years with NAZ if an extension is not secured.

Tbf I rate Freijah. But I’d want a FRP to accompany him.

But you are right with your last point. They won’t give to get. Because to do that would weaken them

Yeah, likely scenario is we re contract him for an extra couple of years but lose another big chunk of our cap space. Dogs payback kicks us in the balls and makes JSOS a very expensive addition.
Would be bad list management on the Bulldogs behalf if they didn't do that, and bad List Management on our side if they didn't factor this stuff occurring in to the future plans.

top 5+Darcy to be at table, they cane give us the second top 5 if Wilkie drives the Chery there to hand over the media spot.

They can consider it payback for taking Bevo after we signed him cause they sucked balls at finding someone to give a shit about their coaching gig previously.

Yep
As is Rhys Stanley.

Meanwhile this year the best 3 ruckman didn't play finals. Gawn, Xerri and Grundy.

Collingwood has a really good ruck. They got him for a meat pie and a couple of Hoyts tickets. That's the smart way to do it.
Yep
And ruckman like Stanley will be the biggest winners of the 'last touch' rule. Athletic and can play long minutes around the field at the expense of tapping craft like Ryder and Goldstein.

Nas is gone if were not playing consistent finals footy anyway, theyll let it happen for a fair deal.

Ideally he doesnt wanna leave cause were winning flags by then

Don't know why there not looking at Jake Lever could easily get him out of Melb.
Even May, yeh hes 34 and a complete campaigner but they have 2 more years tops with some of their guys (especially Bont) at the very top end.

May would cost **** all and improve them outta sight.
