2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

hes going to have competition though... at melbourne i cant see alot of it.

depends if he wants to fight for a spot in a side that will push up the ladder. or be a walk up start on a side sliding down the ladder.
Youd have to think the dees can sling him more coin too.

I don’t see it like that.

I don’t think we have a single midfielder like him if I’m honest.

I see Garcia splitting time between onball and that spitter half forward role.

Nas is Nas and will play across half back and onball - resting down forward.

Sincs probably won’t see midfield time unless a dire emergency

Box would rotate via a few roles. But probably plays the defensive role.

Windy wing half back onball. Tagging.

Pou forward and onball.

Absolutely plenty of opportunity for a 60+% tog role as a mid for us. At worst sliding him to half back if he is struggling abit.

Put a ceiling on him Joffa. All he can do is jump high and do a few courageous acts on the football field.
I know you are being facetious but from the moment he stepped on to the training track you saw a footballer. He oozes ability.
One thing to have it, another to realise it. Look forward to preseason and him having a full go at getting AFL fit.

It's great having so much flexibility between the playing group.

I think he looks more pure athlete than pure footballer but if anything that increases the upside.

He looked absolutely ****ing terrified with ball in hand a few times last year, im all about him but hes got some work to do.

10000000000% agree.

And I want to add. He is so bloody raw as an actual talent. He doesn’t know what he could be capable of - this is just pure mindset that has dragged him from no man’s land at the start of his draft year to right now.

Wait until he learns what he is capable of and the confidence to apply it.

Yes…

But being a star level player, means that contract is pretty ****ing relevant.

You need a club to actually get a deal done. Bulldogs supporters think a first and second round pick gets it done ala Tom Barrass.

That’s their level of naivety.
I never said what they offered was fair i was just repeating what i heard from a coach that has lost several good players over the last year or two

Great news re: Windy

Re: Wilks...
Of course I wouldn't trade him. We'd be and look crazy to let 2 AA defenders slip/leave in 2 years. No club can afford to do that. He's also instrumental in showing Alix and Hammer the ropes, and seems to have been destined to be our next skipper. Not to mention the durability and reliability of the man.

BUT...

Hypothetically, and this is a big IF after a 3 game season, but IF Dougal is fully fit next year, and Hammer spends another preseason learning defensive craft, and with JSos/Aleer joining Alix back there, and Keeler/Marshall helping out (if Marshall is even around). Is it possible that we can get by with that defence, and make a Wilkie trade that works for us? Seems to me like if we prioritise just the next 2 years for an obvious reason, Wilks has to stay. But by then, Nas might be looking at the following 5 years after that, which Wilkie might not be part of anyway, and with Tassie probably coming...

Another option would be May to cover the next 2. I totally get why King would clear out that mess from the start, but RTB might be up for it. And if that allowed us to explore really extracting something good from the Dogs....

Signing Windy is honestly massive for the PR of the club.

  • given Spuds #2 jumper
  • part of the 2021 superdraft group
  • indigenous NGA player
  • leader of the younger brigade, possible future captain and standard setter
  • we've lost noone who we don't want to as a result of our cash splashing.

Nas, Windy and Hall being re-signed was more important than any new signings and so happy its happened now.

Edit: may as well say it in this post too, on top of those 3, signing Pou to an extension to allow him to focus on his footy without the go home media distraction is also a master-class!

People forget he didn't have a preseason. How did Henry go with no preseason? What about Pou?
Last couple of games looked cooked which is hardly surprising. However we could see the footy IQ, both forward and back, and his sheer athleticism in some of his marks.
A full preseason and he has a tonne of potential tap.

just on Henry, it was always going to be a 12 month recovery, once he was fit. what we all saw where he looked a pace behind and has lost his zip apparently was all part of the recovery path. i'm very excited to see how he goes with a proper pre-season under his belt and TBH i think he can get back to his best that we saw before he got injured.

i think he compliments owens and higgins really well. probably does the role we were using Hill for late. HFF.

couldn't agree more on Pou. the kid showed glimpses of how he can really drive games. as you said he looked cooked from a horror season. i'm hoping we can get him fit and just get a full season into him. HF running through the midfield. ideally pushing more into that wing type role Wood can play.

the other i'd add, is Boxshall. he's really impressed me with some of the passages of play. he looks like a genuine inside mid with an overhead game, where he also can find the goals in tight. he's one i'm genuinely excited to see how he goes as he improves his tank. i think he's someone you can build a midfield around.

EDIT just realised you were talking about tauru. he's incredibly raw but honestly he could be the best of the bunch. has a bit of campaigner in him which you love to see. if we can get him fit and get him playing fwd he could be a bit of a difference.
