2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

We really letting Marshall for pick 18 which will be about pick 25?
So pick 25 and what?
As St Neill said, we want players not picks, so their first is of no interest to us. Take their PF squad and give us one of the best ten from that.
Otherwise they can trade their first for a player and hand them over to us (which we probably won’t accept).

Geelong has not yet ruled out considering Curnow’s services in the trade period but its first priority is securing St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall.

It believes Marshall is keen to consider the Cats as his new club but St Kilda has made clear it is hesitant to trade him..
The Marshall deal would almost certainly require the club’s first-round pick and erode the club’s trade collateral.

Sounds like they know Carlton will never trade curnow

We'd throw something else in for SDK or O'Sullivan.

Reserves players and "first rounders" are of zero interest.

I doubt it would be their first on it's own.

I'd be surprised if we could get a quality player out of Geelong though. More than likely a player as steak knives I reckon.

I reckon it will be their 1st round pick and a player like Ted Clohesy a 20yo previous NGA who has played a couple of good games against the Saints AFL. He is an inside bull who had a red hot second half of the year in the VFL.

The other option if we were to lose both Marshall & Heath might be Mitch Edwards 207cm ruckman who we were really keen on in his draft year.

Think there's an obvious trend here. Nas and Windy played hard ball and got the money they wanted. The Saints are splashing money around like confetti to oppo players so understandably some of our guys are thinking, why not me? I'd be surprised if a lot of this isn't player agent driven, dangling their clients in front of opposition clubs to get the rumour mill started. Eventually, we'll throw our guys a little extra cash and all will be rosey. Marshall is probably a little bit of a different case. Geelong being a perennial top 4 team in need of a ruckman.

Tim Membrey down hill skiing and acting like a world beater. Sickening.

Just meaning their first in this draft will be crap and a steak knives player will just clog an already tight list.

Basically, if thats their offer, he'll stay with us and he'll report to RSEA on day 1 of preseason.
I didn't say that would be the offer. Just that it would be more than their first.

But if a player was involved it's not going to be one of the better ones. I didn't say it would just be their first and a fringe player.

It could be a whole heap of different scenarios and it may well end up involving another club.

I'm not sure why it has to be a player from Geelong, if we can find someone of quality from another club that wants to come here then we can get that club involved. Plenty of water to go under the bridge yet.

He seems well balanced now.

Can see why the players love him.

But also gives a clip when needed.

So when does Cmac nominate us ? 🤣
Not convinced he will leave, but I'd be pretty offended if I couldn't get into that midfield. While the AFL world bemoan Hawthorn's lack of midfield option and they are desperate to get Zach - CMac just hanging out in the magoos in football wasteland

Very true, I must've misread. I just don't want shit picks and fringe nobodies - we are stacked full of those already.

But if one of our 'wanted players' were involved, eg Flanders in a 3 way trade, then sure, the points of many picks may be more attractive to Suns than they would be us.

Greeves & Robey, boy/men
Both 192cm mids - who go forward & kick bags.
Get in the Afl system & they'll be pushing to find their position.
Too slow for the midfield & too short in the forward line.
Just not convinced with those two that they can make it in the Afl.
Hope they prove me wrong though.

Im living in the states and have no idea what’s been happening this finals series except that crows are out. I have a weekend of solitude with kids out of the house. Whats the best game of the finals to watch (no spoilers pls). This trade thread is all I’ve been consuming cause I’m a sad sad person
Im in Greece currently at the train station. Waiting to find out if i can get a copy of my train ticket. I lost it.

Some of these ppsters saying "it's okay if Wilkie leaves if we get SDK cos then we've got 3 big backs in SDK aleer and jsos" are forgetting how f***ing good wilks is. One of the top 3 defenders in the league. Never misses a kick. Doesn't get beaten. Intercepting superstar. You do NOT trade that guy away. He's our captain.
I think everyone agrees we want to keep Wilkie, he is a star right now.

But he is only just quick enough now, being baited into a 5 year deal worth over a mill a year is very risky.

Steven May’s form this year is a good example and he is more athletic than Wilkie. I think the dogs only get a million dollar plus player for 2 of the 5 years offered.
