2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

The issue with the "we must win the trade" argument with the Doggies is it removes the incentive for them to even make a trade. What they take away must not outweigh what Wilkie will bring.
Sort of.

In reality they have 3 possibly 4 elite mids.

Treloar, Bont, Richards

Then depth and youth

Friejah, Sanders, Libba

They can easily afford to lose one to get their backline sured up. Its just whether theyre willing to or not

If the offer was Freijah and pick 10.

It’s an offer that gets it done

Freijah is super promising but he's like another Wilson. You are buying on potential still. Wilkie is an elite defender and in our top few players. It would be like them giving away Bont for a pick that is the equivalent of pick 30 in a normal draft and Wilson.

When I look at our list I don't think lets dilute the good players and worry about how the list looks in 5 years. Everything about what we have done lately looks like we are chasing finals. It would set us back multiple years.

Lyon and SOS do that deal and the pressure on their heads goes up. They don't get let off because they go younger.

I’m not saying the pressure is off.

We haven’t knocked it on the head because ultimately Wilkie probably wants this.

Let’s be real here, Bont Darcy and Richards are all off the table.

What potentially gets this deal done if you are SOS & Ross?

I can’t think of a better deal than Freojah and pick 10 - which the dogs will not do

Personally I think it's ok. But it doesn't fit with the clubs strategy and that's the issue.

With that deal we are going to be worse off in 2026 and waiting for Freijah and pick 10 to develop before we reap the rewards.

Clearly the club aims to start contending from next year onwards and we need Wilkie or a similarly elite defender.

Freijah has had a few outstanding games like Wilson but he's no certainty to be an A grade player still. He probably keeps a similar level Saint like Garcia, Boxshall or Wilson out of the side while develops. He's been fantastic but his greatest claim to fame is that he's outstanding for a guy taken in the third round.

10 is going to be developing player in a shit draft or capital for Flanders. To me it's unlikely to get more than GOP in this draft. We'd go into next year with a very ordinary set of tall backs.

And again, were not using pick 10 here were trading it for Wilkie cover.

I see no way we do any of this unless SDK is coming and (I stand to be corrected) im the only person who has even suggested that as an option, i dont think theres any reality to that

Petracca requests a trade.

It's a big list:

Curnow
Petracca
Merrett
Marshall
Flanders
Bailey
Ryan
Fiorini
Ah Chee
Butts
Aleer
Budarick
McVee
Brodie
Chesser
Reidy
Rosas
Buller
Derksen
Serong (Jai)
Hustwaite

Not sure how all the trades get done this year, starting to feel more like NBA-style trade period where everyone jumps around and at the end it takes you a few weeks to work out how everyone actually looks now.

Hold him to his contract. We are under no pressure to do anything, especially act reasonably. We'd be strengthening our competition considerably. I'd sell him to the highest bidder if he wants out. **** Wilkie.

Two of Croft, Sanders and Freijah plus a late pick to use on Fincher maybe or something OTT. They need a KPP now and so do we. If they want to go now they can throw their future away.

Oh well. They are not serious then.
They chased a contracted key back with huge overs.
They should have thought out the capital cost and planned accordingly. But when the List Manager is forced to go against strategy and hurriedly put together an offer, the consequences were not considered properly.
If there is no incentive to trade, good, Saints don't want him traded.
Onus is on the club making the offer, fairness does not have to come into it in this case.
Look at the Macrae trade, we got a need filled, Bulldogs got Kennedy. A fair trade for both.
This is totally and utterly different. Fairness has nothing to do with this trade, and the way Bulldog supporters baulk at any suggestion of good players make me to continually comment on how they are not a serious club.

Are Derksen and Serong actually being touted as on the move?

Throw away your future for the now then. Collingwood and Geelong are happy to mortgage their futures for a shot at a flag. Let them grow some testes.

Flanders would be crazy to go to the Dees. He’s just as much guaranteed a game for us as he is for them and they are on the edge of a cliff list wise whilst we are maybe in the edge of something exciting. Maybe Petracca going frees them up to offer crazy money but that would be very silly of them.

whos the nanga on trade radio right now?listening to him is like reading a big footy argument

Aaron, come on own up to it

keep taking swings at the likes of the guys that have knocked us back(so petracca and butters upcoming) & finish 12th every year=YAWN

They have drafted really well and after a couple of years of development I can see them stepping up again. Stephen King is going to be in his ear selling the dream. From outside we don't look a lot different on paper. Hopefully Ross Leonard the boys put on the charm.
