2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I heard Bassat stepped in and offered Wilkie a lucrative position as an Accountant at his Seek firm.

Took me awhile to Cotton On to that statement 😏

Popped over to check on the Pug board.

The latest salty post suggests Luke Power should get in James Barratt’s ear and remind him he is behind all these other defenders now and he should join the Pugs in 12 months

You can’t imagine this type of comedy😂 🍿
Freijah and their first and lets chat boys

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but 5 out of our top 10 from our B&F (including 2 out of the top 3) were picked up as rookies:

1st - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
2nd - Callum Wilkie (Rookie)
3rd - Jack Sinclair (Rookie)
4th - Max Hall (MSD - Rookie)
5th - Marcus Windhager (NGA selection)
6th - Rowan Marshall (Rookie)
7th - Jack Higgins (Trade)
8th - Cooper Sharman (MSD - Rookie)
9th - Mitch Owens (NGA selection)
10th - Jack Macrae (Trade)

Talk about finding diamonds in the rough consistently!
Had to edit this to make another point; 9 of the top 10 came from trade, academy or luck in the rookie draft. Seriously great list management.

But also to be negative then positive, you could say the lack of our own draftees in the b&f is a big reason why we're not playing finals right now. If we had had better years out of draftees like McCartin, Goddard, Billings, Gresham, McKenzie, Lonie, King, Clark, Coffield, Battle, Long, Byrnes or whoever we drafted in their place, we'd be blitzing the comp atm. Bad luck, injuries, poor development and trading out played their part, but poor drafting in the past is what's costing us right now.

But the name at the top of that list and the players coming through, as well as the development we now have in place tells me that we're entering a new phase where our better picks in the draft are more effective for us, and that means a much better performance all round.

also a damning indictment on our past because of who is not there.

Ie all the top draft picks who should be at their peak as stars right now- but aren't.

Billings, gresh, clark, coffield etc.

None of those guys amounting to anything has really screwed us for a long time.
Shit when will I learn. Sullied again and again

WE should get may for a couple of years hes still got something to offer. At his best hes one of th best defenders in he league. Were a stable club which he could thrive in. Lets face it being at melbourne is like being raised by wolves

Curious how they go from 9th to a flag without Wilkie.

I suppose Darcy and Croft will be better for the year and Weightman comes back but that defense is still utter garbage
That’s a lot of goals coming back in through Weightflop. Albeit 99% of them against Norf and us. It’s an equal amount of diving and ducking and flopping coming back in too, mind you.

Only problem with that is that if we bring in May, we'll then have to give Ryan Byrnes a bigger contract just to make things fair

Why the fook did we give Carroll two years. Would much rather Arie, or even Ronnie take that list spot. Puzzling.
Disagree. I think Carroll could be very useful to us next year, potentially more than the others you mentioned. Very happy to keep him for one more season at least.

Was out and about just earlier. I saw a homeless man outside a bottle shop. He was in bad shape. His alcohol withdrawals were evident. I felt sorry for him and went to put $50 in his money tin. He looked up at me through sunken eyes and said "hang on a minute... aren't you that sully fella that frequents the same forum as that Armoooo character?... stick your f'k'n money pal"

Armoooo's reputation is clearly in tatters.

Flanders will nom us tomorrow and we can all put this piss soaked mattress on the back lawn so the bright sunshine can bleach away our sins 😎

Normally don't go on to oppo boards, it is their forum and oppo supporters should stay away or STFU while there in my view. I went to look at the Bulldogs board and my God still full of delusion and cope.
Apparently we blinked, and Wilkie will be sorry.
They don't realise the laughing stock they have made themselves, a loopy power drunk coach overruling the LM strategy and sooked it up when Saints made Power look stupid over JSOS. Had a tantrum and demanded the Bulldogs go after Wilkie, no plan just a wild offer, not even planning how they would get the deal done.
As I have said for a month, the Bulldogs are amateur and not a serious club. Beveridge has made a fool of Power and Bains is too weak to reign the coach in.

We have also said for a month it was planned to give Wilkie a bump and extension on the contract, this was planned to happen as they explained to the senior players at the beginning of the year.
We still have a lot in the kitty, and also zero SC increases in contracts. Only Essendon has done the same.

Like Essendon with their delusions a couple of seasons back, we have now seen the delusions and stupidity of Bulldogs supporters and that incompetent club.
What a laughing stock they are. 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
How embarrassing for Pencil Dick, Maxipad, and Tian underscore, the lurkers here. Have made absolute fools of themselves.

Except here we are, a month later with it still being reported on. That's not shut down by any stretch, the story would be dead if there wasn't something to it. It's likely he's leveraging a salary increase since the Saints are splashing the cash right now, but the longer it goes on the nerves must start to creep in a bit.
"He said to me, Ross, if you're a club and you trade your contracted players, put your shingle up and say we're not a very good club.

"So everyone wants to model Geelong, and on this front, I'll be modelling Geelong."

That was Ross The Boss, 2 months ago on national t.v

Nope. Not nervous. Not one little bit. You'll notice that out club said it's piece that night and has seen no need to say any more on the matter.

Yeah, I just wanted to see how these things permeate.

I won't name names, but I was hit up by various ITKs from multiple clubs and fed them little pieces of bullshit and it all then got repackaged as "info from sources" or as "a bit of smoke".

Some of the details got repeated on radio and fed into tweets from journos etc.

Disappointingly, I left some really nice breadcrumbs that should have made the story slightly more believable that nobody picked up on.

The weirdest part was when a group of people on here started banding together and claimed I'd deleted posts from earlier in the year about Nas. Not sure if that was somebody with alts, or a shared false memory, but it was interesting none the less.

Overall I think the board did pretty well. I don't think anyone bought my little yarn hook, line and sinker. But it clearly did influence the commentary.

Just my little love letter to the bigfooty off-season

This may be an outdated reference but back in the heady times of 2009. One poster who I haven't seen around the traps for many a year made a new post every week, suggesting we were actually no good and that this game was the game we'd end our streak. It went on for 19 weeks they committed to it every week. We weren't sure if they were just gringo in disguise but their efforts were admirable.

Anyway we finally lose and they were like 'well shit it kept working so I couldn't stop'

Felt similar vibes with this one :D
