2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

If it was just about playing in the strongest and most successful team, he'd stay at the Gold Coast

There is obviously more to it then that.
it would be a combination.

at Gold Coast, he doesnt play midfield, gets shot at success

Melbourne, plays midfield, doesnt see success

St Kilda, plays midfield, gets shot at success

Sounds like they think they can bounce and play finals.

That list isn’t playing finals if Petracca isn’t there.

I’ll extend that additionally if May isn’t and if Oliver is playing half back
It feels like the Scott Watters years for us. Refusing to acknowledge that an ageing list isn't relevant anymore, and hoping that bringing in a new coach will somehow change that

Maybe, but he plays mid at St Kilda. So it's a choice between playing mid at St Kilda (sexy, wonderful St Kilda) or playing mid at Melbourne (stinky, stinky Melbourne).

Have Ollie and Tony74 ever been seen together in the same room?

But I love that Dan and Ollie are the ones getting more goss than the half serious journos vying for clicks.
Ollie seems to be doing a lot of good work for the club. DDF is quickly becoming one of the most influential pieces of football media, particularly among younger people.

Ollie seems to bring an element of coolness, or relevance, that the club hasn't had for a while. Weirdly, it seems that he is having a tangible impact on recruiting!

Oliver has to be a massive no for us.

We are already struggling to find places for Macrae and Steele and we will already likely have one of Boxshall, Garcia, Wilson or Phillippou missing out on selection on any given week.

if we roll the doce, I'd rather it be for JUH or Bobby Hill, stay away from Oliver. Only way I'd even consider him is if it was a Bowes type salary dump.

I hate podcasts, but I have to admit, Ollie is a very big thing for us right now. Behind Ross and Nas, he's probably 3rd in line for face of the club which is nuts.

My only hesitation with bringing all new recruits in means the games played together plummets.
There was a really good research paper done by a hawthorn employee during their premiership years that had the basis of; the more games played a group has together the higher chance of success.
I forget who authored it so can’t credit but it was a fascinating read.

Anyone else think it’s absolutely ****ed that Melbourne have leaked a story to Journos about a chat with Oliver and a role change and he find a new club if unhappy?

I kinda feel sorry for the guy here.

Think it’s karma though with the way he has been over a few years..

It’s looking like King has a no d***head policy with May and potentially Oliver being told to look for new homes..

Done a year too late with their value..

I've got nothing but praise for Ollie. A couple of years ago, he happily caught up with me for a coffee in Adelaide to chat about his pathway into the industry and everything else in-between.

As mentioned, Dan Does Footy is arguably the most influential football show amongst the younger demographics and having Ollie as a co-host has done wonders for our club's perception.

Beforehand, majority of neutrals couldn't give a stuff about the Saints. But now, I can feel that tide is slowly starting to turn and there are becoming more soft spots for the club.

It shouldn't be a surprise given how they treated Petrecca when he was in hospital or even the weird way they delisted JB.

They arent particularly caring or well run.

I’d be pretty disappointed if we did that if I’m honest.

I heard them talking on radio that prior to King being appointed that basically Alan Richardson was overseeing football department including recruiting etc. Says it all really
I was just about to post the exact same thing about Richo. I’m surprised he has survived.

Yep, spot on. Surely no club is giving up anything in the first two rounds for Oliver, even with Melbourne contributing to salary. He may get on the straight and narrow, but I just don’t think he bounces back to a top player footy-wise
