2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

That is a significant upgrade for the '26 list on the '25 list. The fact Cordy and Jones have gotten so long out of this club says to me we've been playing catch up for a long, long time.

Also, I too am keen on Pou #2, but if Sharp, Greeves or Grlj are still available at our pick, would make the romance pick of Mini Pou a tough call...
I'm not so big on Greeves because I think with Box and Pou, we've got that sort of mid covered. And I think Grlj is just a worse but admittedly faster version of Travalia. Down for Sharp though, he'd be killer. I also really like the idea of Taylor, as me fits the defender mould we go for, of Dovaston, as I could see him playing a forward pressure role pretty quickly, similar to Harvey Thomas (Thompson?) from GWS.

Marshall only had a average year , mainly due to injury but he still came 6th in our fairest and best - his marking around the ground will be missed if he goes - the amount of times he has got us out of problems through his marking will not be covered by any player in our squad.
Him leaving will make us weaker , if we want to win a flag we need to be keeping this guy. imo

and by the way , who knows if King will be around this - if he breaks down again we will be filling the void. Hammer / no - Keller maybe but not just yet
Do you really see Marshall being a part of our next flag team? It would be nice to win a flag in the next two years but it's extremely unlikely.

With him and King in the forward line , with a backline now and a stronger midfield there is no reason we can't do something next year or the year after considering how even the teams are.
With the inclusion of TDK , Flanders , Nas , Windhager with the likes of Phillipou , Hall Macrae we now have a midfield with some potency.

And our depth is as strong as any team - our backline now has more than 2 guys that can handle key forwards with Wilkie , SOSJ , Aleer and Howard.

To me Marshall is needed to really take our forward line to next level - have him playing a CHF and King at FF gives us good marking targets allowing Owens and co to excel.

Steele was our best player during a period with an ordinary list and coaching. Geary bless him was our captain because there was no one else :)
What a long way we had fallen! I think Roo should have carried on as Captain. After that? No idea. Cowboy Neale? Joey Montagna? Both guys at the end. Our list in 2015 was dreadful. Have a look ! https://www.draftguru.com.au/lists/2015/st-kilda

  • JSOS and TDK officially become Saints
  • Last night Windy took Flanders to La Porchetta where had a succulent Italian dish
  • Coffee merchants around town are making a mint with all of the meetings going on
  • Sam Flanders wants to wait a few days to do a medical as he's currently experiencing an irregular heartbeat thanks to 15 macchiatos in the past 24 hours
  • On Flanders, he's had to fly back to the Goldy as the Suns have cleared out his locker and its currently strewn all over their front lawn.
  • Humphrey isn't on the table and hasn't spoken to anyone, was then photographed passing a couple of wandering Melbourne officials whilst taking a brisk morning walk
  • Brand Petracca is moving in with Warrick Capper. Planning to release a new tiktok of him making Marinara pasta just like his Nonna used to make.
  • Rowan Marshall excited that he's turning 30 this November. His time on the waiting list for the GMHBA Aged Care Centre is nearly up so he hopes to move in via trade
  • Jack Steele no longer captain, he can leave, but he can also stay, or leave if he wants to leave, we'll help him pack his bags, but he can stay if he wants.

Well, I think I've covered most of the news from today.

How good would it be if Keeler could elevate himself to Paddy Ryder levels.

Won’t be easy but the raw talents their if he can work hard enough.
For sure he is good enough and has better foot skills than some small guys , but to me he still doing his apprenticeship and I would expect another season in and out of the seniors all depending on injuries and how good he is playing - but he is the future when guys like Marshall are gone , which will not be long.

I'm still not really sold on Pou's future as a full time mid, I reckon he could still end up a forward-mid combo.

35 and 4, those are Nas type stats. He and Sullivan Robey bullying the under 18 comp... If we can find a way to get the 2 of them that would be delightful.

Anything is possible but it is also improbable that it's going to happen. Flag winning teams usually need finals experience before they win a premiership. Quite often the heartbreak can drive them on.

Look at how the teams without recent finals experience went in the finals series just gone?

I have been huge Roma fan but this can be a win for a club. He is extremely unlikely to be a part of our next flag team within his current contract. However you look at it.

Fully agree, arguably the most important thing we've done to become a proper club other than the redevelopment of Moorabbin. I wish Sandy the best but the previous setup with them was totally amateur hour and I believe would be enough to deter previous potential recruits who had multiple offers.
Besides the coach, will the Saints have a separate GM of football for the VFL team? Like who is doing the recruitment etc?
