2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

If we are into anyone after flanders- surely it's either:
1. a small lockdown defender.

Webster and paton now gone, stock too slow.

We are paper thin/virtually non existent for blokes to play on the charlie camerons of the world in a cutthroat final.

Or

2. A marking forward (JUH?)
Especially if marshall goes- we are VERY light on for TALL fwd marking targets.

We got killed this year with not being able to take the occasional relieving contested pack mark fwd and/or on the wing. (Marshalls contested marking was terrible this year)

King back will certainly help- but even with him back, it is still a big area of weakness for us (in a cutthroat final).

Owens and sharman aren't tall enough to do it reliably- and caminiti and keeler are still a couple of years off being able to rip balls out of the sky.
Hastie, O'Connell & Fincher small defender options...4 of our recruits will add to our aerial power, plus King and Phillipou will help.

I heard last week that the club apparently thinks it has one list spot available for Byrnes/Jones/Arie

If Ainsworth means getting rid of all 3 then I can see the vision - albeit quite an expensive vision

Otherwise, it feels like a complete waste with Hall tying down that spot with Henry and maybe even Hill struggling to get a game next year
Arie has something those players don't and a point of difference for our list.
He can't defend.
Forward Flanks who floats between the arcs and thumps the ball forward to advantage. Max King could really benefit from Arie

More than happy to have steele playing in the 2s and developing the younger mids.

Honestly, having Steele as a break glass type player if any of Macrae or Windy gets injured is great depth and better than a 3rd rounder we would receive in return if he did leave.

We've been open, honest and respectful allowing him to choose his future.

I hope he backs himself in and has a fairytale finish like swallow but in a grand final.
If Steele is managed well, his best is still good enough, particularly with the burden of captain being lifted

Can't wait for tomorrow. It's arguably the most jam packed trade period we've ever had.

I mean, 80% of the trades won't get done until the last 3 hours of deadline day but that won't stop me from listening to 8 hours of trade radio every day. No doubt I'll suffer a brain injury from that but its a risk I'm willing to take.

This next week and a half is gonna hit like crack. Season starts tomorrow fellas.
I personally love the trade period...I'm tipping a lot of we saints fans are highly aroused!

If I was someone like Butler or even Clark, my manager would definitely be on the phone to other clubs
Cbrist i forgot Clark was even aroumd
What if TDK goes down with an injury for a lengthy period of time (knock wood)? We will then have Keeler and Dodson as our ruckman should Ro and Heath leave. Can we afford to lose Ro? Keeler and Dodson aren't ready yet to hold down the ruck full time.

This is why I just can't see us letting Ro go for anything more than a kingly deal unless we have a replacement lined up.
cmon
We have been screwed for years and made do in the ruck dept
we have massive back up now
Hammer, even titanic can jump, keeler for sure, dodson would make do, aleer has a a massive leap, tdk could show him a thing or two
we are in a a much better position,
plus better mids as well

Well, here it is mate
Your just plainly wrong.

You pounced onto that, l deleted that part fairly quickly l thought? Wow

some here have rocks in their head if they think steele and roma arent in our best 23

both will benefit for having big loads off their shoulders over the past 5 yrs
It’s a pity Ro can’t see that.

Pick 4 in his draft year
158 games for 137 goals, ain't terrible mate
Been one of their better players for a long while
If your going to throw the terrible tag at someone
At least have some proof
Just a rediculous throw away line from you.
Ainsworth is a victim of playing off broadway.

If he was at a club with a bigger profile, he’d probably be more highly rated.

I reckon he could definitely add something… especially as a defensive small forward.

So Lyon and the coaches must have rocks in their heads with Steele as they basically told him this.

How could it be the 'exact' same situation as Battle when Battle was a FA and Marshall is contracted 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Get over yourself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
I have no loyalties to players only the club.
Unfortunately some supporters get too emotionally attached to certain players...reality is they come and go, particularly these days when they hold a lot of power
