2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Yeah I think he does. He looks to have an excellent athletic profile: speed, agility and endurance. + Brave as they come.
In my mind it’s a question of whether he can learn the positioning, team defence and ability to read ball flight. And potentially whether his skills are solid enough. To the eye they look ok
Has great skills. Perfect team player is Loc

So if Essendon are finally deregistered, which player/s should we go after.

They'd merge with the Blues.

The 2 clubs are indistinguishable at this point culturally so may as well make it official.

A lot of media noise about St Kilda being rash.. but what else can we do?

Why don't they make noise about the Academy Inequality
  • St Kilda (and other "heartland" clubs) are indeed fishing from a pond with fewer fish (NGA):
    • Limited Zone & Demographics: Their NGA is restricted to a smaller geographical area (Bayside Melbourne). The demographics of this area mean a smaller pool of players meeting the specific Indigenous and multicultural eligibility criteria required for NGA access. (Bayside has the lowest foreign born and indigenous demographic)
    • Existing Pathways: These zones already have established junior football pathways, meaning that many talented players are already "captured" and developed through traditional routes, rather than relying solely on the NGA for elite development.
    • Draft Rule Restrictions: Historically, and even with recent changes, clubs like St Kilda have faced stricter limitations on matching bids for their NGA players, especially for high draft picks. This means they are less likely to secure top talent even if their NGA produces it.
  • Gold Coast (and other Northern Academy clubs) are given an ocean (Northern Academies):
    • Vast Zones: Clubs like Gold Coast have enormous, almost state-sized, zones for their academies.
    • Broader Eligibility: Crucially, their academies are designed to develop any talented player within that zone, not just those of Indigenous or multicultural background. This provides a much larger potential talent pool.
    • Game Development Focus: The Northern Academies were initially designed to grow the game in non-traditional AFL areas. Without strong existing pathways, these academies became the primary elite talent identifiers and developers in their regions.
    • Securing Elite Talent: This combination of factors has allowed clubs like Gold Coast to consistently secure multiple top-end draft prospects, significantly boosting their list-building capabilities, as seen with their four top 30 picks from the 2023 draft

That’s why I’d be happy enough with a swap for SDK.

Key back who can go forward and play ruck. The other option is to take a kid in the draft, Sandy dragons have Ludowyke a local kid who’s worth a look. The problem is the big guys take time, we could be waiting years to see him become a regular if at all.
Except Logan Morris
How good is he
