2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

So F1 gets Marshall.

Soldo (still what the ****..) would have to be something late and worthless.

If Alan and G are right and butler goes. 29 gets eaten by Fincher because a club will want to get us back.

Has to be something else. That’s uninspiring.

The Soldo nonsense just seems like another non-story the media have invented to pot us.

"Look at the Saints stringing on another guy for over 12 months" blahblahblah

What? That there might be a St Kilda side to the story? Heaven forbid. Especially coming from that know nothing.

To be honest I am trying to just wait until the end of the trade period. Just let it play out. Game of poker going on. Or maybe not….

I definitely do not like people pouring s**t on our club though. Hasn’t been fun to read.
People pouring shit on the saints is just the price you pay for relevancy

Everyone will heap it on us now, but if Aleer gets dropped even once next year the media narrative will pretty quickly shift to talking about how shrewd we were, smart to pull out of a deal late etc. If he has a great year and we don't I'm sure we will cop it, but people have very short memories when it comes to this stuff.
I'd say bring it on.. It's us against them.. let's re-inflate Ross' bubble.

If we traded Marshall for SDK, what else would you give with Marshall to make it happen?

SDK is worth more than Marshall, let’s be real…..

Then they can package it up for Curnow offer

The Giants asking price was insane.
I think any club is entitled to walk away from a trade negotiation if it isn’t in their best interest.

I get the feeling that Rowan softened on a trade and committed to at least another year at Moorabbin, which means that we are simply choosing to stand by two well respected contracted players. I respect this immensely.

Leek is a Giant until he becomes a Saint, so I think the onus is on GWS to contact him when trade negotiations breakdown, and not the Saints.

It’s very unfortunate. But it’s a business now and sometimes tough decisions are unavoidable. I want Leek Aleer, I think if we can improve his craft work he has an athletic profile that means he can be a high impact defender and allows Howard to fall off the list without leaving any semblance of a list hole.

I honestly hope we are ruthless enough to get him in the PSD.

Anybody think Marshall could be captaincy material?

Nothing.

SDK is younger, but he doesn't seem to be that great.

I just like him because our other KPDs will be undersized and he's a backup ruck option.

Took a few things from that Mackie interview:
  • Marshall is their priority, following up with SOS first re: status of the pick 19 offer before putting it up for Curnow
  • That both offers for Curnow and Marshall are not their best and final
  • They still have hope of bringing in both, in order to do so then player/s would need to go

Well, then, give us your best offer, big man!

There’s a lot of talk on here about him.
But I’ve heard no media talk at all that includes him.
Doesn’t mean we can’t ask, I suppose.

I believe that the cats just thought we would bend over and accept the first for Marshall. A lot of smoke and mirrors ATM, hoping that we still bend over.
Depending on how badly Geelong want Marshall, it might get becoming more interesting next week. I can't see Geelong getting either or both of Marshall or Curnow without loosing players and picks.
I just hope that we still do want Marshall and that he is still part of our future plans, because without a trade for players making us better, loosing marshall for picks makes no sense.

I think Marshall would be unlikely for the captaincy. Give it to Wilkie for a couple of years then hand it down to the new generation.

**** them, should be a straight swap or it doesn't happen.

It's not our fault they can't afford Curnow.

He mentioned they were trying to bring in both Marshall and Curnow this trade period.
On top of Worpel
How do they fit them all in the salary cap?
It's just games
I find it interesting that people keep asking how we’re fitting everyone in but not the Cats who must be at 99% of their cap and can bring in Marshall, Worpel and Curnow. How does that work?
