2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Just on Marshall. Watching the Cats in the prelim and Neale was plonked at full forward for large parts of the game. Can't see why Marshall couldn't be as effective as him in that position. Takes pressure off King aswell.
My concerns grow on King. Full training ' before Christmas' is real Hammill type timelines
Even if he does have a full preseason, don't expect Miracles. He will be rusty AF.
I think I have moved to the Roh must stay camp.
1. If King goes down again
2. Why improve a grand finalist

There has been talk on here that Marshall wants to be no.1 ruck, but I haven't seen that definitely anywhere but here.
Reckon he could work rotating forward.

As I said before rehashing everything we know but trying to make it a crisis because we haven't offered Wilkie an upgraded contract.
Can see this is all from his management with Edmund actually saying his management want to see a new contract.

So he said it is unlikely Wilkie even nominates, then a trade would have to be done.
He was correct when he said the Bulldogs are desperate.

Edmund loves to put Mayo on a story.

Breathlessly announces Saints haven't put forward an improved contract to Wilkie and Bulldogs think they can pull off a 'coup'.
Offhandedly says Wilkie is contracted to end 2027 and likely to be captain and unlikely to move. His management wants to see a new contract. I bet they do.
Why do they have to renew a player who is contracted to end 2027 now?

Geez they make absolute shit up.

For a supposed accountant, if this was Wilkie driven he has shit foresight for the CBA revision for this windfall to be all "I want a pay bump NAO". So, mayo is putting it lightly IMHO.

If I was that PA, I'd be shitting bricks at the potential for damaging the players image in said circles if they're the one leaking it, so I'd probably put this on the Dogs camp as they leak like a bitch.

Yes he looked great all last preseason. The moment there was a full on match sim, with turning and contesting, he buckled.
I am hoping for the best, however we should keep Roh in my view.

Wasn’t he starring in match sim until the injury?

I'll tell you who else looked in ripping nick last preseason, Pou. He'll be like a new recruit as well, if he can stay fit we won't know ourselves. 8 or 10 games to shake off the rust and get back up to speed and then add him to the midfield !!

Yikes........

GETTABLE
  • leek Aleer might be the 4th or 5th priority (but he will get to the saints)
  • Pick 7 on the table for Sam Flanders
  • Marshall, Pick purchasing in another form (700k for a FRP)
  • Expecting Wilkie stays. But he hasn’t said an outright no to the Dogs. But Wilkie won’t push it.

They throw out a Hypothetical trade for Wilkie.
Pick 10 + F1 - they could try package pick 10 and 28 and move up to pick 6 for us etc

Sounds good.

I would still like to keep Marshall regardless of what Geelong offer. I just think he is versatile enough to fill a number of positions if we have injuries and is our best onfield leader of the older guys. If our cap becomes an issue, then I would move on Jack Steele before Marshall, but we obviously wont get the same return trade wise.

Also you would hope we get something in return if we are giving up pick #7 for Flanders, a pick sufficient to work the Aleer or Ryan trades. I gather if Flanders nominates us we wont push the McKenzie trade, particularly given the current Merrett situation?

Yeah but.......he's one more significant injury away from being an injury bust I reckon. Touted as our marquee player with a long term contract. He himself has said that so far he's way underperformed expectations, including his own. It makes sense to develop contingencies in case he can't get his body together and show some durability. I'd rather not have him than have him play 10 or 12 games a year or less. If we get more of the same that we've had so far, I'd rather see the club cut him and move on.

Agree. There's no way that Geelong could compensate us appropriately and he is better off as a marking target in our F50.

He’s never shown anything as a KPF. We’ve got our number one ruck so cash him in before he’s playing VFL next season.
All we need is a 2m tall player to make a contest, not get pushed away, and mark or bring the ball to ground. Oh yeh and a lead toward the kicker every now and then would be good. Marshall can definitely do what's required and kick 2 goals a game.

'I can reveal St Kilda are yet to offer him a new contract' but never explains why we would be rushing to immediately offer someone contracted for 2 more years a new one.

If the manager was even half fare dinkum he would forego his cut of any additional payment to Wilks.

Because he has rucked
When did he get an extended period as a key position player either chf or chb?

Cash him in and get what? Pick 18 that goes out to 20-something? He's a gun utility player and can cause major headaches for opposition defence, which we saw this year. We are also losing Heath so we won't have any backup. We are trying to get good, I'd rather take the punt on him being good for us and if he ends up in the VFL we are probably a top four side.
