2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

He’s worth pick 7, which everyone who’s not a delusional saints big footy nuff would agree with, and what will get the deal done if he nominates us.
If we pay 7 thats fine, id rather we didnt but ive got no issue with it.

You making out like Roma is some absolute shit truck and Flanders is Gaz Jr Mk2 is the only ridiculous bit here.

1 good year, no AAs, no individual accolades, no AA squad but apparently hes a ****ing freakshow we should sell the farm for.

Marshall was pretty well respected in 2024.
Topped our club's coaches votes with 48 votes. 16 BrownLOL votes.
Doubt many ruckmen finished ahead of him on those measures in that season.

This season he only got 24 coaches votes, and there were 5 or so ruckmen ahead of him I think.

Either way, his value to a club like Geelong would be very high. They're in the flag winning game, and someone with his experience and quality is exactly what they'd be after. Also, the quality of rucks will be re-ordered a bit when the new ruck rules come in. He's a good footballer around the ground, good skills, runs out games well and is good for an important goal now and then (and is capable of kicking them from further out than a lot of rucks).

People will bag anyone on BigFooty, Roh's a good player. And clubs have to stop handing good, experienced players to Geelong for nothing.

I think a mid / late first for Flanders would be about right. I posted somewhere that I thought 7 + F2 for Flanders +17 is about right, on the basis that the new academy rules increase the value of firsts and seconds to GC since they'll no longer be able to package junk picks.

However apparently GC don't have strong academy bids next year so I guess they hold out for a straight swap for 7 and will get it.

I'd say he's probably worth pick 7 straight up. He's probably lost his gloss a bit after down year and is at the too old to still be cute point in his career. He's not an overly contested player but a great accumulator and good user. If we could get something back as well it would be good but doubt we will.

If he was at a Melbourne club you'd probably pay bit more for a contracted player of his calibre but they can afford to shed some players for points and gain their academy haul so don't care as much.

Where did I say that. I love Roma, I hope we keep him if you read my other comments. I think he’s worth a late first round pick/early second. All I said was Flanders is worth more. This isn’t even up for debate. If Flanders requests the saints and Marshall requests to leave, I will happily delete my account if we straight swap Marshall for Flanders. This is just delusional.

If we turned the Marshall pick into a straight swap for Flanders, it is far more palatable. However, we will need to likely part with 7 for Flanders which I am fine with considering this years draft (and how it will be pushed down due to academy picks/FS).

It's really quite a tricky one with Marshall. He's one of my favourite players but you'd expect his trade value to drop markedly by the end of next year.

Couple that with I would love to see Keeler get ~15 games or so next year (as a forward or back) to see if he can make it or not, it augers to letting Marshall go.

Currently listed ruckmen who have made an All-Australian squad:

Luke Jackson
Max Gawn
Brodie Grundy
Darcy Cameron
Tristan Xerri
Rowan Marshall
Tim English
Jarrod Witts
Sean Darcy

Rucks are one of the positions that least loses its value. Look at Tom Campbell, Goldstein, Paddy Ryder comi g to us,even Heath being sought by another club, shows there is a long shelf life for a ruck.
You think Max Gawn wouldn't get value even at 35 y.o?

Old rucks can often continue to be serviceable, yes. But how much trade value did Campbell, Goldstein and Ryder land their former clubs?

It's not hard to find a big dinosaur who can stand in the middle, compete in the hitouts and take a few grabs. No one is paying up in a trade for that.

Pick 7 is too much for Flanders

Would be asking for something else back if that were the case
While we may value him equivalent to pick 7, given the GC’s history of undervaluing draft picks and throwing them around like confetti (Rioli, Lachie Weller), the club should play harder than giving up pick 7. Yes he’s contracted but I suspect getting his salary off the books will be important if they’re bringing in a big fish this year or next (Curnow, Petracca). In addition, they don’t play Flanders like they value him as a pick 7, flank and sub. On that logic 15 of there 22 are worth pick 7 or more. Ideally we split 7 for 2 later first rounder & trade one of those or give up 7 and get a 2nd rounder back for it.

I would hope we push for a future first for Flanders. If not, then something coming back that gets us Ryan. I can actually see a world where we trade our of next year's draft entirely:

F1= Flanders
F2 = Ryan
F3= Aleer

Maybe not the best strategy, but it would definitely indicate that we are all in next year

We picked up a 3 time AA midfieldet who had been played out of position for a second rounder, but Flanders is worth pick 7?
