2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Gehrig was playing on the wing for west coast and getting booed by the supporters.
His first few games in defence were shithouse.
He turned out to be one of my favorite ever players but I don't reckon anyone knew how fantastic he'd be with us.

Gehrig was All Australian on the wing at West Coast, then won their goal kicking the year after.

We brought him in and stuck him at full back.

I think it’s funny a poster the dogs regard as ITK claiming he knows all our contract offers and how we are overpaying everyone.

I check his post history…

2 days ago he was claiming Flanders to the dees and Trac to the suns 😂

Last week, another dog poster. Wilkie is coming and will request a trade.

Check his post history and it was long ago he was bagging Bigfooty and didn’t want to post any more 😂

Davies, Fiorini or Will Graham (before he was injured).

Given the manner some are talking about him, I would have thought he'd be starting in a midfield before them.

Fiorini is more outside and a massive accumulator. Davies and Graham are both complimentary types who role play. It's not as straight forward as you make it sound. Sometimes guys that can play a second position get shoved into lesser roles because others can't too.

I think Hawthorn is the recent template.

Not many A graders but full of B grade players.

Lots of depth. Even spread. Play to a system. Have lots of buy in. Very difficult to shut down because they have no pressure points.

Hawks do lack those one or two generational type players that teams need to win the biggest games. But we have one in NWM and hopefully develop one or two more.

If King gets back to his best then he is our second.

Hall would be close to A grade already. Easy to forget that he'd never played AFL before last season. Already in our top 5 players. Would be close the best HF apart from guys like Rankine, Shai Bolton etc.

So you think Ronnie will get another gig?
Good, honest, ordinary player - and very good depth.
No further chat about Steele either?
Somethings got to give somewhere.

No, think he's done.

Nathan Buckley was big on this working. Suggested that like Adelaide did, if you improve the quality of the players from your best 15 down, you get a big overall improvement. Turning someone like Byrnes who is C grade into a Flanders B+ is a big gain. Keeps your depth options high. We are also filling holes.

Our problem isn’t decent foot soldiers it’s A grade stars, TDK and Flanders are certainly upgrades with potential to play A grade football.

What we need to avoid is one in one out, we’re not going far just swapping TDK for Marshall. On the backup ruck situation I have faith in Dodson and Keeler, if we trade Marshall I don’t want a Goldstein or Cox type.

Everyone needs to also keep in mind that pick 7 will blow out after academy and father sons and this year's draft is not great. When our pick ends up being a pick around 11, are you getting a player as good as Flanders (who is only 24)? The odds say no.
It’s very early but it looks like we’ve done extremely well with picks around that area with Nas, Phillipou and Wilson. Another one of those plus Flanders instead of just Flanders would be awesome if we could somehow pull that off.

Draft Guru has us 6th on the A grader ladder with Nas not included and Hall still listed as D grade. We have a decent top end now. It's that large mid career pool that don't exist at the Saints that is holding us back now.

TDK for Marshall is definitely sideways with potentially a bit of an upgrade.
Flanders for Steele is an upgrade also both younger so give a few years more service.

Steele was looking ordinary for most of the time we've had Lyon back. He's fairly limited in a second position and Macrae has pushed him out while kids are pushing up. Flanders allows us to move him around to give Nas or Hall on ball bursts.

JSOS is filling a hole, Ryan is replacing Butler but adding something extra as well.

Crazy off season, loving it. Go Saints!

We'll have to lose a few.

Aleer Wilkie JSOS
Sinclair Tauru Flanders
Windhager Hall Wilson
Owens Keeler Higgins
Ryan King Sharman
TDK Nas, Boxshall

Phillpou Garcia, Hill, McCrae, Wood

E: Dodson, Clark, Travaglia, Henry, Caminiti

(Steele and Marshall gone)

King, Phillipou and Henry are as good as new recruits. JSOS and Ryan fill holes. A heap of good youth like Hall, Nas, Owens and Windy still haven't peaked. Phillipou, Wilson, Garcia etc have more games under their belt.

I reckon we are starting to look like a very good list. Luck with injury, fixture and fast start and who knows how much better we'll be. It's almost time to start dreaming big again.
