2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Are you sure? We only need to take 2 in the ND and still have a few without a contract.
I think so.. assuming all OOC players (Byrnes Jones Schoenmaker Carroll Heath) are delisted... Webster and Cordy already gone... which means 7 senior spots available (McLennan and Boyd off the rookie list)

TDK, JSOS, Aleer, Ryan, ND1, ND2, Caminiti (upgrade) = 7

so to add Flanders we would need to lose someone contracted or maybe try to shift someone like Dow to the rookie list?

Well Gringo and others have been into Flanders for a while. I might disagree with him on a lot of things but rarely on players, so I will trust him on this.
As for not moving the needle. We aren't getting Bont, or a 25 y.o Dusty Martin, but we are getting TDK, Ryan, JSOS, Aleer, and probably Flanders, added to King, Pou, and Henry as new players, plus the likes of Hall, Windy, Wilson, Travaglia, Tauru with a full preseason, Garcia and Hastie all developing.
Maybe that will move the needle. Surprised someone like King who doesn't usually clickbait would go down that path.
Henry?

So will it be

I think we should ask for at least GC's pick 16 back with Flando if we're giving up pick 7. Worth the question surely.

GC need points for their NGA kids. 16 is worth something to them.

Even future picks will be tough to pry away with the uncertainty around how bidding will work in the future.

Tom Mitchell has been told to move on.

He'd be the type of player I would like to captain the 2s for a couple of years.

Sign him as a rookie so he's paid well and Isn't effecting the 2s salary cap.

Draft Guru has us 6th on the A grader ladder with Nas not included and Hall still listed as D grade. We have a decent top end now. It's that large mid career pool that don't exist at the Saints that is holding us back now.

TDK for Marshall is definitely sideways with potentially a bit of an upgrade.
Flanders for Steele is an upgrade also both younger so give a few years more service.

Steele was looking ordinary for most of the time we've had Lyon back. He's fairly limited in a second position and Macrae has pushed him out while kids are pushing up. Flanders allows us to move him around to give Nas or Hall on ball bursts.

JSOS is filling a hole, Ryan is replacing Butler but adding something extra as well.

That’s absolute fantasy gringo, have you read our ratings ?.

Jones B, Hall, Tauru, Travaglia D, that’s just a sample.

Agree clubs shouldn’t fold and just bend to the whim of contracted players.

The day this becomes the norm will be the day bigger clubs become more powerful while the smaller clubs continue to get picked off.

Sadly loyalty is no longer a thing and players are all about making bank while they can.

I guess you can’t blame them when it’s a fairly short career and you have to set yourself up for the future.

I miss the days of club loyalty and playing for the colours meant something.
I’m not a fan of Essendon, but they need to ask the world or keep Merrett to his contract. Even more so a couple of first rounders might not be as strong in this year’s draft. That’s if Merrett does decide to nominate a club and leave.

Grand final eve and, I believe, we have kept everyone that we really want to keep, and we're in the box seat to get everyone who we really want to get.
Presuming that all eventuates, ****ing wonderful!
Marshall and Steele are the interesting ones. The club could look to move them on for the right price. If you were only offered a third rounder for Steele (age and form) then you might as well keep him for depth (could happen if a few of the young mids take big strides in 2026).

Not complaining but it’s actually crazy with how shit of a year we had, with 4 of the shittest wins you’ll ever see at the backend has landed us 5 recruits. Literally the nas effect.
Everyone wants to play with Nas. That happens when you have a generational player. Unfortunately, Saints had to offer overs to get players to come because a lack of sustained finals success. If Saints are consistently contending in finals then players will cross over for under.

It’s a shame free agency wasn’t around in 09/10. Saints could have consistently topped up like Geelong do.

Geelong is the model. Classic rebuilds are going to take a decade and even more if the AFL goes to 20 teams (history tells us the AFL don’t stay very long with an uneven amount of teams).

I wouldn’t want to Essendon or Carlton right now with their list demographic. At least North (they eventually rise) and Richmond are doing the core rebuild before the Tassie drafts.

Don’t forget Tex Wanganeen. There was talk he would get a list spot.
