2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

You understand the situation would be the same irrespective of what we did.

They are being aggressive. I’d say there is a negligence to giving a 5 year 1.5m a season deal to a 30 year old - irrespective of current durability.

Again, there is no guarantee he goes. The clubs current expectation is that he stays and becomes captain.
I think its the fans on here that seem to think he's a shoe-in for the captaincy, more like it.

You framed it as discontent with the club. Wilkie has been offered 1.5 mill over 5 years.
He can't possibly get that from anyone else at 32.
It is not a club issue, Saints, or Wilkie have done nothing wrong, only Dogs will if they can't land him.
He hasn't even decided yet, and if he does decide the deal has to best interest for the STKFC.

I didn't, I said that Wilkie wanting out isn't going away. Didn't frame anything. You thought that it was panicking as usual. Now him wanting out is being spun as a positive and you sheep as usual start clapping along.

Basically it's gone from a nothing short according to you guys to a little story where he might go but only for the right price. And to cope you are imagining him getting us three firsts, Richards, Bont and Darcy.

If Wilkie goes it's an unmitigated stuff up and while it might not be directly caused by offering overs to GOPs but it certainly got the environment changed to one where one our few elite players might walk out under contract.

If Marshall wants Geelong then we tell Geelong the price is high after you won the prelim. It will be higher if you win the flag.

We need to screw them
Imagine if Geelong lose the GF and they get badly beaten in the ruck.

Or if they get badly beaten in the ruck even if they win.

As good as they are, it is an area of genuine need for them.

Club needs to put its foot down, we cannot trade Wilkie under any realistic scenario that wouldn’t be a massive loss.

Worst case scenario he plays the final two years and leaves as a free agent. Would be better then accepting any deal the Dogs will offer.

Understand him asking the question given the size of the offer but not sure he can be captain now. Pretty disappointing. If Steele goes, who would it be, Sinclair?

I used to coach against him, very talented kid

He's really come on. He was playing at Fitzroy a few years back and there was some link to a family member that played in their VFL side from memory. Seemed to walk into VFL and play well from day one.

I agree the 'bed wetters' are the other brigade who cant cope with anything outside their sphere of command. Any lateral or alternate thinking has the hoards doing back flips and leaving those offensive comments.

Also, if we are serious about pushing for a flag in the next 2 years, we need to really think about who we are trading players to. You don't want to be in a position where you are making Dogs and Cats better by giving them our decent players whilst they give us junky draft picks.

Thanks, Tony as well.

Not sure why?
Could very well win a premiership this year.
Have Blicavs, Neale & SDK who all do a fair job in the ruck.
Because as good as Geelong is, the ruck is an urgent area of need for them.

Marshall will make them even better and they are in the window to win Flags.

I heard on SEN someone saying that Scott will be meeting Marshall again shortly after their final game.

They got him and Bowes for literally nothing, both probably playing a grand final next weekend.

Both are still GOPs that seem to work in their system. Both look like they'd barely get a game at a lower club. They seem to absolutely maximise talent.

Wish we were a chance for Merrett

That would be a game changer

3 years of Sincs and Wilkie still playing top notch footy, supported by a gun mid who doesn't look like slowing down

Merrett, Nas leading the mid with Windy, Garcia & Hall

That's reason enough, to keep him then

I think he'll end up wanting out. At his age he'll be looking at a flag and wanting to be the first ruck. With TDK coming he's going to be pretty unsure what his future looks like. I think the club would be happy to cash him in while he has value. There aren't many examples of sides playing two rucks successfully.

1.5 million over 5 years is the offer, that is head turning for anyone.
You again frame something as an unmitigated disaster and say we expect Bont, Richards and Darcy.
You really need to settle down and stop wetting the bed all the time, you sound a bit hysterical.
For the hundredth time, the Dogs instigated this on a contracted player, the Saints wont deal unless it is in our interest.
Bulldogs wont even trade one decent player according to their ITK's, so the trade wont go ahead.
You need to compose yourself and stop with accusations and silly emotional hyperbole.
Just relax.

Has anybody thought what would happen if TDK gets injured.
Neither Dobson at 19 or Keeler could hold down first ruck in the AFL
We should definitely keep Marshall.

Callum will be at Moorabbin next year
If Tony is right, and he always seems to be, then it makes Geelong’s prospective trade for Marshall even more interesting.

Wilkie staying means the backline no longer needs shoring up. So presumably the club (who seem to be interested in trading players rather than picks) will be identifying another area of need.

Cats don’t seem to have an overloaded midfield and they wouldn’t trade blue chips like Holmes, so who would they be prepared to offer that would be of interest to us?

The thing is though & I've said it before. He only has to pinch hit in the ruck, kinda worked with Ryder.
And he is cover for King.
Who cares if he's a good fit for Geelong, he's contracted, so we can hold.
Only reason to offload him is if we get an elite mid. from them.
Don't need SDK now.
Could get him though, when he's out of contract?

You probably don't need an $800k player for a back up though. They are usually a Tom Campbell break glass type. Keeler should be getting to an age that he can take more responsibility. He'll be a fourth year player next year. If he can't take a step up he's probably going to come under pressure to keep a spot on the list. If he could ruck for 16 games and have Dodson fill in between it could probably work.

My guess would be more like we see it as an opportunity to use his trade capital on a player like Flanders and push his wages into something more immediately productive.
