2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

yet dogs fans say that's big overs
Of course they do.

If he was out of contract and we were happy to move him on, maybe. Dogs fans think that because a player wants out, its the selling club's obligation to take a fair trade, or even one with a little sweetener for the buying club.

They are proposing to take the most dependable defender we've had in over a generation, AA last year and in the conversation for multiple years including this one, b&f winner, vc, never injured or benched. 2 years left on his contract and would never dream of leaving, were it not for a ridiculously inflated (TDK/JOS-level) contract. Leaving our defence this much short for next year, maybe many years.

And they expect a FAIR trade? :D

The club have told Marshall that he is required for day one of preseason unless Geelong meets our asking price.

The stance is the same as it’s always been. Roma has asked for the move.

Wilkie & Steele similar
Are you saying Wilkie would happily leave if we was satisfied with the deal?

Yes, that's how i read the comment too! Has Wilkie said he wants to go?!
I’m pretty sure there’s nothing the dogs are willing to give up that we would be happy with.

It does worry me that Wilkie would consider leaving though.

He’s heart and soul. You don’t trade heart and soul players.

No issue going into next year with Dodson and Keeler as back ups.

We’ve had a state level fall back plan the last few years and not only have the wasted a spot on the list but they’ve also limited the development of our young project players. Expose Dodson to the number 1 ruck role at VFL level and he’ll be ready when we need him.

If anybody with a ticket gets close enough tonight, please try to arrange an arm wrestle between the bulked up Trav and the wasted-away Ming. Time to end all the speculation. No broken bones, though, please.
He got all these shoulder injuries in the first place from his last arm wrestle with Jack Lonie a few years back, time to let him heal.

I read it as the club is expecting all three to be there Day 1 pre-season. They’re all contracted, afterall.

I read it as 'if Wilkie asks for a trade' he will be at day 1 of Saints preseason training if the Saints don't get the trade they want.
Thanks i’m much happier with that.

I have a dogs mate and I’ve been saying for weeks he’s 100% a saint next year and I’m not even worried.

Misreading that post was my only slight worrying moment.

Keeler struggles in the ruck but if TDK and Dodson were injured he could give it a go but hopefully he gains strength in the offseason because he was too easily manhandled.

This may be a weird opinion, but I wouldn’t mind seeing if Liam O Connell can jump. He’s only 190cm but he could play a Blicavs (or James Blake) type role to relieve ruck in short bursts. I think he can be an old school utility and play anywhere.

Theo Drop said on Triple M that St Kildas public stance on Marshall is very different to their private stance and that if St Kilda publically say they want to keep Marshall that’s news to Marshall because of what’s going on behind closed doors.
The art of negotiations, to increase the value in something is to limit the availability of the same thing.

Aleer can't defend but he can jump like a kangaroo. Maybe he could chop out.
