2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Aaron from Trade radio if you are reading this you are a massive campaigner and know sweet FA about salary cap, drafting strategy or anything you were talking about. Misinformed garbage is all you had coming out of your mouth as it was frothing from the sides. “ I would prefer a 10 year rebuild” What an idiotic statement 🙄
Surely no one is calling up Trade Radio yet?

Sounds like a plant to start a debate.

That's fine. Kid's in his 2nd year, hasn't even turned 20 yet, and already has 4 BOG performances. Has a chance to be one of the premier mids in the game. You don't trade that level of talent for a 29 year old. If that's classified as unserious, then I think we will learn to live with that.

Wilkie is an absolute star. That is why you are chasing him. He has played 150+ games without missing one. Can play tall or small. A very good kick and elite 1 on 1.

You waste more of what’s left of Bonts career without being seriously ready to pay up.

The high irony is that Bulldog supporters have listed their 'untouchables' but then want us to trade an untouchable of ours for shit.
Their delusion is massive. They are not a serious football club.
Freijah is not on their untouchable list but they still wouldn’t trade him.

If their football department thinks the same way then they aren’t a serious football club.

I think for the dogs posters lurking here, along with us, have to realise if you are trying to induce a contracted player to your/our club, you’re likely going to pay overs..

Us with Flanders - reported we have offered pick 7 for him - some might argue it’s overs, but he is contracted..

Same with Wilkie - if you have had the coach ring and offer a truck load of money…then offer peanuts for him, it doesn’t make sense and makes your club bit of a laughing stock. He is contracted, saints can do sweet F all…
Wilkie may want to go, I now shrug my shoulders..contracted mate, dogs didn’t value you that highly as promised by offering deal for all parties..

Same with Marshall..contracted..Mackie cannot bend us over a barrel…again Marshall wants to go, again shrug my shoulders, sorry mate, Geelong didn’t rate you enough to get a trade done..

Gaz Lyon was spot on 360, saying either pay up if you’re trying to get contracted players, or shut up…

Surely supporter bases can be logical about that.

If we wanted Richard’s or Bont who are contracted, we are losing players we don’t want to part with, but it is what it is..

If Wilkies manager has orchestrated this, it would be negligent of him if he hasn’t told Wilkie or the dogs of the above..

4 BOG performances? When? He polled 6 Brownlow votes (2 BOGs)

Also pretty sure he is #1 for one on one contests ?

I think you would need to consider everything in totality.

If all you lost from your best side was Marshall and Wilkie (massive loss)

But you gained: Freijah Flanders Ryan TDK SDK JSOS Aleer & potentially still have a frp in play for the draft or maybe even Cmac.

It’s hard not to argue that you are a better football side. That’s a very high ceiling list. The question would be how quickly it translates onto onfield success.
I’d prefer Wilkie, Marshall/SDK, Flanders/CMAC, Ryan, TDK, JSOS, Aleer

Fortunately this is by far the most likely outcome! (Barring that Flanders 50/50, and CMAC just a rumour)

If you want Freijah, then yes, a deal is not realistic. Even a straight swap would be a no go.

Exhibit 101 of why you should not post on other teams forums......

The Saints are the ones not needing to make a deal, the Bulldogs are. Wilkie is contracted.

I agree. All the noise from the Dogs camp makes it clear it’s unrealistic and unlikely. They’re surprised it’s still lingering. Saints hold all the cards, and I highly doubt we will give up one of our brightest young midfield talents.

Bulldogs started this. Your coach called our next Captain (contracted) and fired in a massive 5 year contract.

Your club valued Wilkie.

Wilkie is absolutely elite. Probably the best defender in the competition and a leader who organises young men.

If your view reflects the attitude of your football department then you are not a serious football club.

Talk is cheap.

That’s not the noise from the dog camp at all 😂

You are surprised we haven’t squashed it. There has been no comment about what you are willing to part with.

And if you think you can get him without parting with elite talent. Then you are an amateur footy club.

I think we can at least agree that St Kilda are considering how they can make this work for them, as I'm sure Essendon would have done when St Kilda approached Zach Merrett last year.
How this works for us is that we hold Wilkie to the next 2 years he is contracted for.

And this, I’m 100% sure, is what will happen. He is the only experienced player in an important area of need.

If we trade him for unders just because he’d like more money, might as well fold the club lol.

It’s laughable that it’s gotten this far. Bulldogs supposedly shocked it hasn’t been wrapped up yet? It’s like waiting from a text from a girl with no interest in you lol, at this point it’s kinda pathetic

As I have said previously, the player behind Nas as the second most important on our list (who structurally could be more important than Nas, you could argue) is Wilkie. Doggie supporters, if you want objective evidence of that statement (because, of course, I have a huge amount of bias) have a look at our recent B&F - Nas 1st and Wilkie 2nd. Wilkie is also one of the most durable players in the league and could play elite football into his mid-30s.

Considering Richards will likely finish 2nd in your B&F, how could you argue that a fair trade would not be, for example, Richards for Wilkie? Richards may be 26, but I bet Wilkie outlasts him career wise.

Merett is 30 i think so surely hes worth **** all.
Why are people even bothering to argue over whether a player would be fake traded for in a deal another player?
More fun than saying "NO DEAL" i guess?

Friejah and the dogs first is the bare minimum id take in the event that Cal starts shitting in the middle of the gym. If Cals happy to stay or go then bend over and bite down doggies cause were gonna do horrible things to that list.

Or we all walk away and everyone stays happy.

Maybe we should practice what the club is doing right now and just ignore the Dogs. Trade ain't happening. Let them scream into the void.

This is my last post on this.

I suspect this is what’s happening: Wilkie is using the Dogs as leverage to get a bump in his pay. The Dogs see it as a chance to get back at the Saints for snatching Silvagni from under their nose, In addition to trying to force the Saints to stretch their cap space even further.

“Hello, you have a contracted All Australian who just finished 2nd in your best and fairest, had the most marks of any player in the home and away season and has been a top 4 defender in the league for the last 3 years. We would like to buy him for our known poor defensive group.”

“Ok, that’s going to cost you some very good players and picks.”

“NOOO! We don’t want to give up our best players!!!!!! Only want to GET best players!!!!”
