2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Anyway.

I know nothing concrete.

But on Monday I heard a rumour we could be keen on Ben Ainsworth.

So I’m just keeping an eye on that

Ainsworth would be an interesting option, I wonder if we see him as an upgrade on Butler? He has basically kicked a goal a game, can pressure but more importantly is a decent contested mark for his size.

That's an extremely dramatic statement
I’m by no means a footy tactician so maybe I’m talking complete garbage, but imo…

Ro not being a great tap ruckman meant that our mids had to be immediately on the defence. We didn’t see a lot of a midfielder bursting out the middle and kicking into 50.

I believe TDK will gt his hands on the ball more and be able to tap it to a midfielder already on the attack. Especially if they re-introduce the run and jump.

We even saw Keeler directing his taps more effectively to our players on occasion. So while we will miss him around the ground, I’m not sure we’ll miss his ruck work too much. I’d still have preferred to see him work in tandem.

I’ll miss his smile though 🥲

If I've been working somewhere for 10 years and the bosses bring someone else to do my job for twice the pay, but tell me i can cover the new guy on his breaks, I would probably be looking for a new job.

At the end of the day, this is their job, they have to look out for themselves above all.
Sure, but if you signed a contract (that said you were obliged to do what is best for your employer), then you are a little bit ****ed

It will be a stand off between him and SOS for sure

I'd love it to pan out that way.

*The cats are desperate for him after the gf ruck fail.
*He's contracted and very useful to us next year despite TDK coming in.
*He's been paid out most of his contract- so we aren't looking for salary cap relief.

The only way we let him go for anything less than an awesome return is if we need the cats future first to unlock another deal we are desperate to do, and can't do it any other way.

We're holding all the cards.

Mackie can play as many games as he likes- but this is all he's got:

JSOS will be in the best 22.
I'd be hoping we have at least another ready to go ruck, and one that plays a forward/ruck role.

Can't be relying on Dodsob if the unthinkable happened and TdK went down.
Yeah JSOS will play back and team up with Wilkie.

I was just taking the pi55 from what he said in his interview today about hanging up the shin guard.

Perhaps as a contingency for Ryan? Fairly similar type without the leap. Thought he was going to be a gun early doors in a poor GC side but a lot of others have gone past him since. Hard pass for mine

Or we aren't being cooperative and going public might put some pressure on us to do something.
Him leaving really disturbs the list in my opinion. We go from having awesome ruck depth to terrible. Also gives a leg up to Geelong who I assume are a side we're trying to catch. I don't like it so we really better demand massive overs or walk away.
