2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

I think it might drag out with demons involvement
Don’t think so.

Gold Coast need to move Flanders on regardless of the Petracca thingy. For salary cap, list spots, and opportunities for their increasing number of nepo lads who need to play.

And Flanders wants Saints. He won’t play anywhere else.

Melbourne will just have to suck it up. They also need to move Petracca on now.

With all of our expected Free agency and trade news coming in a flurry in the first week.
I look forward to the absolutely ridiculous and unhinged suggestions on here as to who else we can get as we become increasingly bored and greedy over the next two weeks.

I'm starting to think Ameet was not the strategic genius we previously believed him to be...
Bains is weak and shafted Chris Grant because Grant disagreed withn Beveridge.
Beveridge is way more powerful at that club than Lyon will ever be at the Saints.
The Wilkie debacle was completely instigated by Beveridge who ran roughshod over Power.
When it wrnt belly up as Power said it would, don't be surprised if he gets blamed.

I'm at the AFLW game in Marrickville. Bumped into Jesse Hogan--good bloke. I asked that he take it easy on us next year and he laughed in a humble way and said, "i think you guys are going to be pretty good!"

I can’t see how they get Curnow, Holmes ? they just don’t have the picks or players really.

What would you ask for Curnow ?
They would have to give up this years 1st, next years first and a player I reckon. Possibly Stengle?

Something tells me Blues are sick or Curnow. Doesn't sound invested. No spring chicken anymore.

Going to be some serious vertical leaping prowess at the Saints next year.

Aleer, Sharman, Pou, Ryan, TDK, Tauru. High flyers on every line.

Even Hastie, NAS and Wilson have a big leap on them.

Wilson actually won the highest running lead at the draft combine, just haven't really seen him fly for his marks yet.
Agreed, plus:
  • Owens
  • King
  • Collard
  • Keeler

Really hope we can keep Marshall, we will be far too reliant on King staying fit to make the top 8 if we lose him. We'll be too small up forward again if he can't get on the park.

Even if Marshall kicks say 25 goals, he would free up Sharman and Owens. Could see Sharman kicking 40+ and Owens 30+ if they had a bigger forward next to them.

….

Part of modern footy is having a bunch of part timers who run through there - so one of your starting 3 is always a part timer. Every single one of those above has a second position. Then you add in Sinclair, Hall, Wilson, Trav.

The biggest problem with Steele is that he doesn't really have a second position……
I disagree with this, respectfully of course.
I don’t think top teams have only two mids and part-timers, and
I think you are saying we have two mids and the rest part-timers.
Steele was the bomb in 2020-2023 and no part-timer.

There are those that play both, Pretracca, Danger, Dusty, and the former are mids come forwards, the latter the reverse, where they add value to their primary role. they are not emergency fire fighter mids.

Sincs is an emergency mid. NAS - well that’s an evolving story. Hunter Clark did much better when he returned to a flank and Hunter was one of those ‘hopes’ we had for a mid.

I think modern top teams have more than two genuine top class mids and part-timers.

It looks to me like we, have (in no order) MacCrae, Garcia, Windy, Steele, Jones, Pou, The Box, Dow, Henry? Carrol?, and NAS (if we assume he is to be mainly a mid) I put the Pou in there as he is only a temporary forward (unless he becomes a Jack Billings)

The NMFC trade board is pretty much a spin-off of the st kilda board cause theyve got nothing to talk about over there 😂
This particular point is something i found hilarious.
I don’t disagree particularly, but the getting younger while getting a bit better, plus all of the medium term benefits is big
