2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

A player like Max King could have been placed in long term injury list to make room
Yes I understand then the problems that brings too
Of course - if he, the doctor, the club AND THE AFL thought he wasn't going to play in 2025.

A club can't just decide to place a player there because they might be injured for the rest of the season.

This is the process from the AFL rules and I have bolded the important bits.

26.2 Approval of the AFL(a) Where a Club proposes to transfer a Player from its Primary List to its Long TermInjury List, the following procedure shall apply:

(i) an Officer of the Club shall as soon as practicable, complete an“ Application for Inclusion on Long Term Injury List” in the form prescribed in Schedule 1 as Form 23 (“the Application”);

(ii) the Officer of the Club and the Club Medical Officer shall sign the Application;

(iii) the injured Player shall sign the Application as evidence of his consent to being transferred to the Long Term Injury List;

(iv) where the Club proposes to transfer a Player from its Rookie List to itsPrimary List to replace the injured Player on the Club’s Primary List, the Player from the Rookie List shall also sign the Application as evidence of his consent to the transfer;

(v) the Officer of the Club shall lodge the Application with the General Counsel, together with supporting medical evidence which verifies that the injured Player is suffering from a Long Term Injury;

(vi) the General Counsel may in his absolute discretion, approve or disapprove the transfer of the injured Player to the Club’s Long Term Injury List or require such further medical evidence, including without limitation a medical report from a duly qualified medical practitioner approved by the General Counsel, prior to determining whether to approve or disapprove the transfer; and(vii) where the General Counsel gives his approval, the injured Player shall from that time be deemed to be included on the Club’s Long Term Injury List and any Rookie List Player referred to on the Application shall be deemed to be included on the Club’s Primary List.

(b) The transfer of a Player to a Club’s Long Term Injury List or Primary List under this Rule 26.2 shall not take effect until the General Counsel has notified his approval under Rule 26.2(a). Where the General Counsel does not approve the transfer of the injured Player to the Club’s Long Term Injury List, he shall notify the Officer of the Club and the Application shall be of no effect.

26.3 ConsultationThe General Counsel may consult with the AFL Medical Director prior to exercising hisdiscretion to approve or disapprove the transfer of an injured Player to a Club’s LongTerm Injury List.

Not sure why youre bothering TBH, the person only reads their own writing and only comes to their own conclusion it seems and facts dont make a difference

Get the feeling we're doing Gold Coast a bit of a favour here to move their Petracca deal along. Not common to see a deal like this agreed so early without the usual posturing.

Would not surprise me if there's some later pick swaps with them once they've sorted the rest out.
Announced a couple of weeks back that pick 7 was on the table.
This had been war gamed weeks ago.
I am only judging this trade period at the end not on individual trades.
If they judge him as a pick 7 quality, after what they have achieved in getting us to this point in trade period, I will put my faith in their judgement.
However if they fold and take 18 for Marshall, I will be unhappy and question their whole strategy after Lyon came out saying good clubs don't trade contracted players.

My guess is that we are prepared to show that we have to pay up for a contracted player. Sending a message to Geelong.

Probably some goodwill involved especially if Butler is traded to them later on once plenty of picks change hands, and Heath too for that matter.

I probably do agree with 35 players (or whatever number people say) have more talent than Stocker on our list.

I don’t think any of them can play the small defender role better than him though. He would be first picked at his position until (if) he gets overtaken.

Has everything apart from a bit of pace. Is brave, decent enough kick, decent overhead and most importantly plays his role.

Petracca deal might force the Suns to trade out a few more names we are keen on.

As I said in my post, there are reasons for it...

But it doesn't change the fact that he is a 24 year old that has had one really good season and half a really good season in the midfield.

His best is very good but it's such a small sample size it's impossible to know whether that's how he can perform long term
You could argue Flanders's 1 year sample size in the midfield is still longer than Nas' midfield sample size of last 8 games or so. Never the less, I believe both are guns and they will both flourish with better players around them.

Premium Jack Lonie.

Too small to play properly as a mid and doesn’t really have the game to play as a small forward.

I would stay well clear personally.
Big difference and key is the fact that Lonie was small and had no pace , Rogers is quick.

Whether he can play midfield at AFL level is yet to be seen but has all the ability in the world .

Nas was elite even before his move into the midfield though, hence being named AA on the back flank.

Anyway, I'm not trying to shit can Flanders. I rate him. I just think there are reasons why we should be asking for something in return for pick 7.

If it doesn't end up that way so be it.

UNLESS IT BENEFITS THE CLUB

Stocker has a fair dinkum crack every single week. Plenty of other players would be elite if they had his determination with their skills

My 2 cents, at the time Cordy was listed as 8-10 weeks with his pectoral injury. He was eligible to go on the lti list.

Screenshot_20251007_141002_Samsung Internet.jpg

He'd have either needed to stay on the LTI list or be swapped out for another LTI - would've been Max - if he recovered after his injury.

I'm not saying it was a huge miss not having pick 5 in the MSD, but I do believe it was possible within the AFLs rules.

Those arguing we should have put certain players onto the LTI to get a midseason pick. The player has to agree to being shut down at the time.
In Cordy's case he was fighting for his career and in Kings case he would have been desperately hopeful to get back onto the park.

It is what it is, and I highly doubt we'll be looking back with regret in 3 years time.

Yes, but in my opinion pick 18 that turns into pick 25 in a shit draft does not benefit the club.
Well, see what deal is done. Ro has wanted to go home for 2 years, he is leaving and if its not this year, it'll be next year for less than what we get this year.

Pick 7 was worth it for the memes alone......

(but in all seriousness, I'm with Joffa on this one, lets wait to see how we feel at the end of the whole thing) I reckon there is something else coming our way as a return favour for making this piece happen so quickly.
