2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

I just don't get this attitude... some supporters act as if Max owes them something because he's suffered a number of unrelated impact injuries. Doug rips his shoulder out of it's joint, then he lands awkwardly on his knee twice in two years... it's nothing but sh!tty luck.

Not talking about you specifically LoF but some of the comments here, at games and online in general border on vitriolic.

No one is more frustrated than Max. The poor bastard just wants to be out there performing to the level that he knows he can.
It's the weight of expectations vs what he's delivered. Even he himself has acknowledged that what he's achieved so far has been disappointing. If he was just a GOP with shitty luck and a small pay packet then it would be different. But he's not. He's our longest contracted player , reportedly on $1m per annum, the face of our next flag push. And he can't get on the park. And when he could he was hardly the dominant force we're all hoping for. His body language was shitty, he was exposed defensively and he looked like an injury waiting to happen.

I'm not frustrated with his injuries because something that cannot be controlled. What can be controlled is to lead up at the ball carrier consistently, try and burn your opponent off, and to show some outward grit.
Which he did consistently when he wasn't playing on one knee.

What will hopefully help King when he comes back into the side is better entries inside 50 because we have a better midfield now.

We’ve arguably played worse with him in the team in recent years just looking to him every time and bombing the ball high to a contest in his direction, hoping he can pull of the magical, while he’s being molested by 2 tall defenders.

But while fixing the entries is one thing we also need proper alternative tall options to support him and stop him getting double teamed all the time.
Spot on.

When Max was last firing on all cylinders, he had Seb Ross' floaters & Gresh's helicopters to deal with.

At worst, sounds like we get this year's first
P
Honestly don’t think he’s too far wrong. Ro will be 30 next year and his body and form has been below his best the last 12 months. If we were offering a first for ruckman with a similar profile I’d be flat. The fact we’re potentially getting a first is great for us.

I think we won by getting Flanders. Pick 7 seems like a good result for both clubs. We understand Flanders is contracted (Geelong????) and GC didn't ask for the world. It is also sets up a basis for cordial trading with GC in this trade period and maybe going forward.
I am pretty comfortable with this trade TBH.
I wouldn't mind Jake Rogers ... another superfluous to GC needs but only 20 with big upside

The bloke suffered a workplace injury.

What he is paid is irrelevant (& its not near $1m now anyway).

He's not the face of our next flag push at all. Nas & co have taken that mantel.

He was tracking better than the majority of other tall forwards before Dougal threw his tantrum (well ahead of Hawkins, etc at the same point.)

His body language & he sucked defensively when he was playing injured & couldn't move (so would you if a sh!tman like Griffen Logue was manhandling you).

He doesn't owe us anything.

And a new era of memes begins at the Saints. Welcome, Neddy!

Embrace the hate/jealousy.
It’s part of being relevant.
We are scoring home runs ( wrong sport I know) pre-season. We are going to now have to put it together in the season proper.
I would have thought the obvious go-to in the AFL preseason would be "we're kicking goals in the pre-season!".... :roflv1:

The three big tests for us to show that we are a serious threat, in my opinion, are:

1) beat Lions anywhere;
2) beat the Dogs;
3) beat Crows in Adelaide.
Beat Eagles :'(

Takes all the emotion out of it calling it a 'workplace injury". Yeah it is a workplace injury - doesn't make it any less frustrating for supporters hungry for success. He certainly was the face of our flag push before he was injured for 18 months.
That's just an excuse saying he was playing injured and that's why his body language sucked. His body language and defensive efforts sucked before he was injured. Yep he owes us all his effort and absolute best to get himself right.

My word, if there's a chance we bring in Humphrey I think I'll need a lie down. Have Gubby and SoS been doing their sneakies behind the scenes for months with him too? 🤔

Mystery mid? 🧐

Flanders and Humphrey from the Suns would be gif heaven 🤓

Agree with Gubby with the elite assessment on TDK, Flanders and JSOS. This is not based on some fantasy stats which could be easily inflated (Marshall with around the ground marks and dump kicks for example). All 3 are proper smart footballers and elite skills in their position, I’ve seen TDK easily beat opponents consistently. The way he beats Gawn, Goldstein, Witts in the ruck so easily is impressive.
Max Gawn said “I think he is an absolute superstar. I have really bullish thoughts on Tom De Koning. I have played him a couple of times and he is worth everything."

Trade Radio saying there's almost been a softening from Dimma/gold coast on Bailey Humphrey based on some family issues..

We couldn't slide in and get him and Flanders
Bailey lost a mate pre draft and has devoted a lot of his time to supporting mental health issues.

What better place for him than the loving surrounds of the Danny Frawley Centre? 🥰❤️🤍🖤
