2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Have to love both Bombers and Hawks cooking themselves

Good to see the Hawks miss out on the poor mans Max Hall.

David King on fox just spoke about our injuries this year, 3rd worst this year with a 134 games

We need King and Pou to play 20 plus games

Agree we can jump and surprise a few next year

I was suggesting this all year and got shouted down. We had a poor preseason injury wise and as is the case on most occasions teams struggle to recover. It was definitely true in our case and put way too much pressure on an already thin list.

It will be interesting to see how our new recruits fair with the extra running expected by Lyon and co in the preseason.

Steele out but f***n Ronnie Byrnes and Zak Jones are still on our list. This sets the club back 10 years!

Just glad smug Barrett will no longer be able to keep spitting out the line "Geelong just know how to get these deals done, they're the masters of this."
Oh yeah, big brain Mackie sliding in with his annual last minute offer upgrade.

Who could have possibly seen that coming. What a waste of everybody's time.

Chefs kiss. They had 2 players wanting to go there and they got neither.

Hawks burning themselves was wonderful too. Merrett would be furious with the Hawks.

They're probably denying it ever happened.

This is there typical victim mentality and arrogance, from their thread

'
If we take it as true that our offer was 3 first rounders for just Curnow (with nothing coming back the other way) as was reported, then it is a shocking deal. As has been said here though, it smells of clubs simply saying "we wont deal with Geelong". Carlton couldve gotten 3 firsts from us for Curnow and kept everything else they have now sent to Sydney. I cant fathom how that is a better deal for them than what we offered.'

Nothing to do with getting two contracted players to nominate you then you low ball the trades :rolleyes:

The sheer arrogance and hubris of the above quote is breathtaking.

Really glad they got nobody and they have stood still. got a 9 goal flogging in the GF and have gone backwards. Good.

I'm not jumping out of my skin, but I'm certainly not melting - its a shame Steele left. I won't pot him on the way out but I do think it'll be the best for him and possibly even us for him to start afresh.

Plenty of people touted Steele as a first rounder, so to sell our previous seasons captain for minimum chips is a bit sad.

Petracca deal is absurd, truly absurd. When you consider the Flanders deal, we probably did well to quickly jump in and use just the one first. Having said that, Ainsworth was sold for a pittance so who really knows with the Suns.

Compare the Petracca deal to the Marshall offer. Geelong happy to offer three first rounders for Curnow, but say offered all they could offer for Marshall - Mackie tried to call our bluff and is a fool for doing so. Geelong thought we weren't a serious club and I am sure they would have expected us to fold.

Both Hawthorn and Geelong played the same old card and left their committed players to go back to their clubs with their tails between their legs. They absolutely 100% deserve the same treatment we copped with Aleer, but of course the narrative with be different.

Today showed the new landscape, poach contracted players, pay the price.

But they "tRiEd EvErYtHiNg".

They didn't even try to pull off a pick swap with another club to offer an upgraded pick.

Mackie literally gets paid to only work for 3 minutes in the year.

At what point did Mr Mac cotton on the the fact we weren’t getting sucked in by his last minute dramatics???
6:29:59???
Even cotton eye joe could have seen we weren’t wavering.
No means no.

What a trade period. Geelong go backwards lol, Hawthorn tread water with a sub par midfield, Essendon still an enormous shitshow lol (Merrett’s first game next year is gonna be appointment viewing), Dogs defense is still a sieve, Collingwood nothing to improve their ancient list, Giants added a completely washed Oliver, not convinced at all on Sydney (mainly cause Cox gives complete disaster vibes.) Only team in the eight that improves is Brisbane lol.

What a time to be alive.

They wont be. Out of contract and we need to shed all of Jones, Byrnes and Schonemakers to take the minimum 3 list spots to the National Draft.

Caminiti must be upgraded, and we could upgrade Hall also, but dont have to.

Leaves us with Fincher and potentially one other at the draft.

We will be active in the rookie draft, replacing Boyd, McLennan, and Caminiti at a minimum.

They thought they were getting Marshall. They got Buckleys instead!
