2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Does anyone know when Kobe will be joining us? Is it the same deal as Armstrong, where he still has to finish high school

That is a yes. On the St Kilda FC Website:

He will relocate to Australia to join his new teammates once he completes his final year of school in mid-2026.

Poor kid , 17 years old never played the game and he is already a Sincs replacement , how about we see if he can bounce a football running flat out instead of a round ball before you break out the lube .

Looking promising and actually making it are two way different things

No wonder the AFL makes more money on TV deals, they're still shooting Gaelic ball on Iphone ones over there. Any danger of some 480p highlights this century?
Tbf its an amateur sport over there and they're very strongly against professionalism so im not surprised thats as good as it gets.
They all work full time and Players, Staff, etc all volunteer to do it from ground level up cause of the cultural significance of the sport to their heritage and love of the game.

I admire that about them tbh, passion for footy and its working class roots is long gone here..

Couldn't agree more.
Professional in AFL has taken a lot of the raw passion and tribalism out of our great game.

So many of your replies refer to copious amounts of alcohol, hard drugs, magic mushies and lube.

Forget P Diddy and his freak offs and head straight to Risky’s for the party to end all parties 🤪🍻💊💉🍄🧴💦

He reports to Delina who reports to the board. The board have the final say as they did during Trade period to stop trading FF Picks.
Even in the Watters era the board had the final say, and that's why he was sacked.
We may be a football club but that is the product, we are a membership organisation and while governance is similiar to any organisation, their are additional guidelines for a nominal ' non profit' ( for tax purposes) organisation.
normally the senior coach reports to the footy gm but that aside...

you are correct that is how it should normally work. but based on the reports when lethers quit thats not how it works with ross lyon at our club:

there was more comments around this from caro i think on the tv show where she said they wanted two CEOs. a CEO of the business and a CEO of football which is what Ross is.

effectively ross runs the football program the way he wants and i think he answers directly to the board.

i think there's reasons from this, i dont think we did well from a normal structure. for example remember the absolute shit show we got from lethers, rath and ratten making completely incorrect statements that i think lead to bassat taking a more hands on role. which lead to ratten being let go and ross sought out.

i think from there i think its more of a case of dealing with the actual person building out the dept first hand, rather than having a CEO managing the footy dept where the senior coach reports to a footy gm who then reports to the CEO and COO.

BTW there is no regulation stating the coach has to report to a CEO. there are some best practice frameworks but we went outside those when we sacked ratten. its just a guide and not an obligation.

his social media history is appalling.
It's not great, but atleast he keeps it to himself as he's employed. The worst part is going to be when he retires and inevitably goes down the Sam Newman/Warren Tredrea pipeline and starts spouting alternative "truths" on some podcast and its treated as credible because of his achievements as a coach. Wish people could separate that a bit more

So, with the signing of Kobe McDonald & then the likely drafting of Fincher.
That leaves us with 2 spots,
1 x primary & 1 x rookie.

Reckon we could be abit thin in KP players still,
So in the draft, maybe we pick up a Ruck/Forward type as a need.
Liam Hetherton-Murray Bushrangers is seen by some, as a late steal.

In the rookie draft- l'd like Wade Derksen, can play KP back or forward
& adds abit of mature-age experience to support Barrat & Tauru especially.

Would mean that we dont bring in Jackson Voss or Tex Wanganeen.
Sad for Vossy, coz l feel he deserves a spot in the Afl.
