2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

The NGA zone changes will be an interesting watch going forward. I just had a look at the stats from Frankston, Dandenong and Cranbourne areas and the population dynamics are mostly Anglo Saxon, or Indian or Asian backgrounds.

I don't know how many more academy kids we can expect from the larger bayside zone compared to other teams. I guess any increase to a larger catchment area gives us more chances.

Owens of Japanese heritage & Windhager indigenous are hopefully a sign of future kids.

It's funny how one game can change our perspective on a player. I thought Darcy Wilson was having a pretty disappointing season until that last game.

Seemed braver and put more thought into his disposal after a little bit of time in the VFL. From that one game he's become our most important re-signing
Wilson looked more apprehensive/unsure when played on a wing especially on the back half, but on a HFF running towards goal, he seems a lot more instinctive, direct and damaging as a result. Rather he collecting 15 touches but kick 2-3 goals and a goal assist instead of side ways kicks and long bomb down the line from the wing.

We have a pretty good zone. Don’t forget it’s all private school areas. If the get a footy scholarship they can move into our zone.

Toot & Rye is full of Greeks, wonderful people, always guaranteed a big basket of veg and homemade Rakia. They tend to retire down there, along with everyone else. There's always been a small but strong Italian local population. It's good to get in with them...they know all the secret fishing spots.

They are all third generation now. Not many new immigrants down there nowadays. My son played soccer and he played a fair bit on the peninsula. Whitest group of kids you'll see anywhere on the Port Phillip Bay side. If you go out towards Cranbourne it gets a bit more diverse but Mornington, Mount Eliza, Rosebud etc are very WASPy. Even Frankston is quite white.

Dandenong is proper diversity zone. Berwick way gets a lot of afghans and other south asians but peninsula looks like pretty much a waste of time for our academy stocks.

There was a game in the 2s last year where he played 100% on the ball. Think he ended up with 40. Had a half were he was just dominating centre clearances and sprinting away. It was Dangerfield esque.

He has been hesitant at times over the ball at senior level, but have seen enough to suggest he can make it as a genuine onballer.

37 disposals and 1.3. He's going to be a freak.

Has the AFL released what actual suburbs are included in that 'bayside' area as yet?

Yeah, the peninsula is predominately European. These days it's either tradesmen and their families, Air-b&b's or retirees.
I can't see it changing too much once you're past Mornington... not in the near future anyway. They're going to develop Frankston more and more though, so there'll be a trickle down effect over the coming years.

So there isn't anyone named Buckley running round with tribes of aboriginals anymore.?

Even if there was it wouldn't help with future NGA's...not anymore.
Plenty with indigenous lineage though, so if St.Kilda is serious with it's wanting to be an indigenous cultural leader when it comes to that space, and the AFL is serious about making pathways easier for Aboriginals to get on a list, then the peninsula isn't the worst base to have.

Darcy is training extremely well, fast, powerful and confident!

There’s games already not just the giants game where he could have kicked bags of 5 even against the Giants I think he had another 3 or so scoring opportunities. Me could have kicked 5 against Geelong I think or north in year 1.

I’ll keep saying it but he’s tracking better than max holmes did. We just have to give him some midfield time this year.

Not Tassie vfl team? , kinda interesting.

Yeah as a Tasmanian (about to go to a pro stadium rally) I was hoping for him to be part of the Tas VFL team.....may be about the obvious ie $

Highly recommend the latest PommyinOz video on Youtube. A grwat explanation of the new draft rules AND a comprehensive website when you can see the bidding system and how it affects NGA's FS etc.
Initial reaction is this is wht I can see why we loaded up on FF Dp's in trading.
We can all be list managers with this tool.

Draft Order is 2025, I am sure it will get adjusted for 2026 when known after trade period, but can give you an example of what a matching club has to do.
