2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Only last year we were begging to get some midfield help in last years draft to help Steele after carrying our team in the early 2020s. Now his gone, so brutal.

We now have three 2027 3rd rounders and two 2027 4th rounders.

Unfortunately, I think F3 was to be expected. A slowing down 30 year old, albeit a top citizen, had very limited interest I think we just take the pick, and the cap space and focus on Boxshall becoming Steele Mk2.

Wouldn’t blowing the cap be more if we held onto him for another two years spending $2 mill on him to play a fill in role and cut down on young fellas time in the guts?

I think we made the deal out of respect to Jack.

Yeah it's doing him a favour as much as Melbourne, in all reality he would have mostly been playing VFL if he stayed with us.

When the club tells you to look around for other options your papers are pretty much stamped and you're no longer required.

We were always going to get bugger all for jack if he decided he wanted to do what we told him to do and look elsewhere.

When windy wouldn't settle for an owens level deal and insisted on (reportedly) circa 900k x4- were forced to choose between windhager or steele for 1 defensive mid spot.

We chose windy and this is the consequence.
Losing steele for nothing but a salary dump is fine- so long as windy continues to improve and becomes a genuine gun mid.
