Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

If there was an option to reverse the Macrae deal and keep Steele i would straight away. So many good memories, hard to say goodbye.

Guys, what did you expect? We told him to leave, basically. No other club was interested except West Coast, who he didn't want to go to. He was on a big pay packet for next year, apparently. We weren't getting a second rounder. It was equivalent to Macrae deal where they at least said he was a required player.

Basically that. We set the price last year but it still stings. In the end we've swapped Steele for MacLobster as our veteran mid which is a positive outcome for the club.

How so? Almost universally agreed that its sad to see a long term servant go for stuff all, but it's probably for the best for everyone involved.

It seems anything short of getting on your knees for the club officials is seen as overly negative by you.

I just don’t like it, was keen to see Jack without the captaincy and injury free. Anyways, hope he does well at Melbourne. Relieved it’s not for Collingwood etc.

The writing was on the wall for Steele when he was made the sub, that's like dropping someone without actually dropping them.

Steele was always going to leave. The club statement was very blunt at the start of trade week. Why would he want to play VFL all year.

Melbourne are a great fit for him.

Jack gone for a 2027 3rd is about what he is worth unfortunately and I’m not suprised at all at his trade value. Keeping Jack meant he would become a VFL player for us next year, we owed him this to let him still continue to play AFL footy for a while longer.

My heart is sad, but my head is happy.

I'm not saying that I disagree with the direction but the fact that we are a club that finished 12th and are doing salary dumps is cause for concern. If we finish 10th in 2026 it would feel pretty disastrous.

Wow all I can think is we must have huge plans to bring in another player next year and moving on Jack Steele was to free up that cap.

I think it could be about re-signing a lot of young talent and using the extra cap space to lock them away.

I think moving Steele on would be similar to when Hawthorn moved on Mitchell and O'Meara — it would open up more opportunities for the younger players and help with their development.

Jack gave us great service, but in reality, our midfield is a huge weakness, so changes needed to be made.

When Darcy is needing a big deal you'll be glad Steele isn't in the VFL on huge money.

When we are dealing with centimetre perfect Global dropkick incorporated for Tauru we will be happy for the Steele money.
Really someone on big money had to go after NAZ went from 750k to 2 million.

We want to keep Marshall and have maintained that the entire time. Whereas we highly encouraged Steele to find a new club because we didnt plan on playing him.
