2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Glad we kept RoMa. He's worth way more to us than he ever was to Geelong.

They will go grab someone like Brayden Preuss or Todd Goldstein if they really need to, otherwise they back Conway in to develop.

Still reckon we can delist Jones and have Carroll and Dow as depth.

Flanders will be gunning for that #3 haha

Steele’s last 11 games (including 1 sub appearance)

19.18 disposals
9.45 tackles (wow)
0.72 rebound 50s
3 inside 50s
4.45 clearances
0.18 goals per game

Outside of the tackles. His second half of the year had him as a real liability.
His first half was pretty much the same unfortunately.

Had one or two good games in the middle.

The most important part is Tony stays undefeated.
Well he did say neither Steele nor Roma were going anywhere ….

but he’ll certainly still get our
2025 ITK Award with Geezington a meritorious runner up with his sterling work on Flanders and the GC
🤣

Personally, pleased we kept Marshall. To me the gamble of him being a half decent forward was worth more than whoever some pick in the 20s and 40s next season were.

Only time will tell if we made the right decision. For this to be a success for us I think Marshall needs to kick around 30 goals, but I think more importantly will be how much Kingy and to a greater extent Sharman improve with less attention on them. Also it will be pivotal for our midfielders to get first use when Marshall is in the ruck, he will be the best backup ruckman by a country mile and will need to dominate and be really physical, especially when you have guys like Ricciardi, Neale, Thilthorpe, SDK etc in there.

By the end of the year his role had changed a fair bit as we fed Nas, Garcia, Hall etc through the midfield.

He's gone, no need to kick him on the way out. He was a great servant and was a light through some dark years.

If anything his career as captain under Lyon was marked down due to him being a happy nice guy without a killer instinct. Maybe not Lyon's ideal candidate but never a bad thing to be a good bloke.

Game’s gone past him, should’ve happened and I’m glad it did. We’re a serious football club now after being a basket case for 10 years.

2024:
Disposals: 119+
Tackles: 14-
I50: 22+
R50: 18+
Clearances: 14+

2023:
Disposals: 61+
Tackles: 33-
I50: 23+
R50: 9+
Clearances: 4-

Both compared directly to his entire 2025 seasons.

Kinda didn’t realise how bad he has been since Ross got here. It’s a big sample size now. Infact his 2022 was worse than 2023

Geelong are losing some gloss now. Clubs not letting them push them around and a few of their messy ring-ins have tainted the environment that was a huge attraction due to the exceptional management.

What a shame.
Why do I get the feeling you really don’t mean that 🤣

Seriously though, thanks to us and the Bombers neither Cats nor Hawks improved their lists at all this trade period.

And that’s a definite win.

Not kicking him at all. Has absolutely nothing to do with pointing the finger at him or praising Lyon for being a prick.

It’s purely list analysis. Really hadn’t realised the drop off was so extensive.
