2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

If we were willing to do it for an acceptable price, then why not hold out for a better deal or walk him to the PSD ? How did it take us until halfway through the trade period to realise a) we don't have the picks for him and b) he was surplus to requirements? That's what I mean by amateur.

If we have reneged when we signed Silvagni I don't think anyone would blame us. Again right end result but we've come out of it looking poorly.
Theres always a little bit of information that the media and supporters are not privy to. It may come out eventually but probably better left unsaid

That reeks of a late season RTB appraisal setting a revised price cap !! :laughv1:

Looking very serious there, where's the trademark smile?

Chipping in on recent discussion points:

- Byrnes over Jones and Ari for me. If Byrnes is our 23rd selected man, our side is in good shape I think. Don’t see Ari making it and I’ve seen enough Jones for one lifetime.

- Aleer remained at GWS despite plenty of time after we pulled out for others to swoop. No lost sleep on this one. Lots of possible moves fell through too. S*** happens but as the dust has settled I don’t think it’s as bad PR as it seemed initially re: future reputation/dealings.

- Happy for Steele despite losing him. Very happy Marshall stays.

- Go you f****** Saints in 2026

Is that true everyone else is gone from then?
To be fair, most teams that have been in the bottom half for most of the last six years would be similar.
I remember crossing out players on my 2010 GF poster when they left. It didn’t take long for half of them to be crossed off. My co-working Collingwood supporter did the same and it was virtually the same for them. Teams can’t stand still. Turnover is an essential part of growth.

I'm so bullish on what Marshall and De Koning can do together. Plonking Marshall at full forward is going to be a luxury. If the mids can get on top then Marshall, King and Sharman with Ryan, Higgins and whoever else gets in at their feet can be a really dangerous forward line.

Liam Henry should be the ideal third guy buzzing around with ryan and higgo at their feet.

We seem to have depth on every line now. Caminiti and Howard fighting it out. A bunch of kids like Box and Hugo that want to get in the team. Trav and Hastie should get better. Tauru. Pou.

So excited for 2026.
The following is absolutely possible:

40+ goals - King, Higgins, Sharman
30+ goals - Owens, Ryan, Marshall
20+ goals - Hall, Pou

This won't be an easy forward line to match up on.

If there’s one position I’m interest to see how we develop it’s our small-mid fwds:

Higgins
Butler
Ryan
Collard
Said
Henry
Owens
Hall (/mid)
Pou (/mid)

Butler and Ryan at the tail end of their careers as premiership winners.

Higgins a top 3 small forward of the comp.

Hall & Pou will probably rotate mid and forward, could even throw a player like Wilson in here also he’s absolutely a scoring threat.

Owens a lock as a true mid sized forward.

Henry a big question mark but if he comes on then he could be best of the lot.

And then that just leaves the development of Collard and Said who have a lot to work with.

All King/Sharman and Marshall/TDK will have to do is bring it to ground.

Cuddly Ross is dead and buried.

Dictator ross took one look at aleer in the final and declared:

Joaquin Phoenix Thumbs Down GIF

Not overly upset about this turn of events, full dictator mode ross got us to grand finals.

We need to average 13.5+ goals to have any chance of making the 8, probably simple as that. Seeing as we averaged 11.7 with the poor line we had this year, this could be huge. Even Adelaide with their so called "3 headed monster" only averaged 14.3, so this could be massive for us if they all stay fit.

My favourite was the nuffy who said that the AFL needs to look into why we refused to trade.
Whilst they’re at it they should also look at why the Saints didn’t trade Hastie to the Cats, even though neither club, nor the player in question, sought such a trade.
