Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Stocker - Howard - Tauru
Sinclair - Silvagni - Wilkie

And for that 7th defender rotation there's a choice of Clark, LOC or Hastie.
We not gonna be able to replace Jimmy since there really was only 1 of him.
Moving on, we have a pretty reasonable group to choose from.
Sounds like Carrol is building a strong case for a half back role

Watch this space.

That back 6 is solid and Howard can take the really tall forwards a little better, but just the lack of speed is concerning as in running it out of the back half. Not sure what or who the answer is if we keep NAS in the midfield. This is why i hope Hastie comes on.

Did he have a lot of injuries last year? He showed a bit in a couple of games and had some decent VFL form. Will keep an eye on him.
I don't watch the VFL but the few times I saw him I really liked that Carroll looked before he kicked, and then kicked it well.
Probably needed to get a few more of them but that's what half back is for I suppose.

Carroll instead of Tauru fixes that problem

In an ideal world Hastie comes in and Stocker is also pushed out by one of the others. Problem we have is we now lack elite kicks in the back half and none of our kids are much chop in that dpt.

Having 2 elite rebound HBFs means that we haven't had any developing behind them getting games. We cut 2 in Bonner and Schoenmaker and now probably develop Hastie and Travaglia into those replacement roles. Carroll is a possibility. Flanders has played that role before also.

Windy rotated back there at times late last season too.

Windy looked really good out on a wing/outside mid. I'm hoping he gets to make that role his own. His kicking is still a little unreliable for HB. I reckon he's in for a huge improvement next season.

I actually think next off-season will be our lowest turnover in a few years. I think the list gets to a profile where it acts against your objectives to keep cutting any further......

Older fringe guys like dow clark byrnes stocker will look for a trade to the likes of WC, tigers, lolnorf if we hit our stride this year and make finals etc with them in the vfl

Imo, think his kicking is more about confidence and getting used to handling the pressure. Dont think he would get into the elite kicking bracket, but wouldnt be surprised to see a big improvement this season. He now looks like he knows he belongs at the level.

On kicking, think we will really enjoy seeing Flanders kicking through the midfield. Looks a very nice kick. If we ever had a midfield rotation of him, sincs and Nas that would be a pretty elite kicking midfield

Regarding the backline chat. In an ideal world, I think we play 2 key talls, 1 third tall, 1 small defender, 2 rebounding half backs, and one defensive bench rotation. I would love for the following backline to justify itself with form by the middle of the year:

Tall Backs: Howard, Silvani
Third Tall: Wilkie
Small Defender: LOC
Rebounding Backs: Sinclair, Carroll
INT: Travalia

We're a bit sight unseen on Carrol, but he's quick and has a great kick so has real potential. Clark is the other candidate for this spot, and I think it will be very interesting to see who the coaching staff favour.

LOC reminds me a lot of a young Jimmy Webster, in that he's tough, a solid mark, and a neat kick. Stocker could go here, and I think LOC will have to push him out.

Travalia just pips Stocker for the bench role, as he can play multiple positions. He will be sweating for this spot though, which can only be a good thing.

Obviously no Tauru which is a big call, but I'd love for him to play a full year of VFL. If he can force his way in, all the better, but if we're looking at finals next year I think the experience of Howard, JSOS and Wilkie would be better in the short term than the raw talent of Tauru. Much of a muchness though, as sure he'll get plenty of game time with Howard and JSOS odds on to miss chunks of games.

Nar we've just spent our wealth elsewhere lately. Bonner and Schoonie weren't more than a throw at the stumps either.
As long as Sincs is fit we're ok but it would ve good to get some good kicks into the squad asap. Pitty we didn't take the Hoff last year.

Wilkie is also super underrated by foot

Clark and Carroll have both shown in the past that they can use the ball well. Neither have had an extended run at half back in recent years but I feel with the correct responsibilities they might not necessarily be elite, but they can still help us be one of the best in the league for transition from defensive half

Either way, the good thing about Nas and the depth/versatility of our 2026 side is that if we're in a game situation where we are lacking class off half back, we can chuck him back and still have a really strong midfield with Flanders Pou Macrae Windy Hall rolling through

This is not something I'd be worrying too much about

I'm not worried in the slightest. IMO having a defensive group that can control the air is the most important factor, and we should have that now if they can stay fit.
That will flip the dynamic and we'll be less reliant on the need for accurate kicks and runners.

I'm not sure any would get much interest from outside. They are all going to have to be pushing to be best 22 or probably at a crossroad. They are perfect back up players but not many would covet them.
