I feel that Sam Draper has already become a cult figure at the Lions.

The ungainly action , the uncoordinated forays into packs , the occasional speccie , the bogan haircut , the fans are going to love Draper.

His goal song will be something by the Sex Pistols or Stuck on You.

Tom will be wearing this for many years.

I will be bombarding his socials requesting he makes Tribute by Tenacious D his goal Song.

I almost spat my drink out earlier in the year when one of the women players said that their team was responsible for that club's merchandise sales. Like anyone is believing that.
I'd believe it of a few clubs. North Melbourne, for example - no reason for people to buy new merch of the losing men's team, especially since most supporters probably have a collection over the years, but a successful women's team with brand new stuff to buy including premiership gear can drive sales. Sydney as well, the amount of AFLW gear has spiked around here whereas people are generally still wearing men's gear from years ago.

Those four games a season for the next five years will be fantastic to rub Tom's nose in it! ;)

Having Annable come in is a huge bonus. Can pretty much focus entirely on improving depth in the defence and forward lines.

We can look to recruit a tall project player in defence and even a player in their early to mid twenties from state leagues that’s ready to go physically.

I don’t think ZZ will make it as a defender with his kicking skills. Second ruck is more his go I think.

From other clubs I think Jacob Blight could make it and would be worth a punt. Out of contract with Richmond.

Watching highlights I can definitely see the upside in Draper. He could be a real weapon.

I’m still uneasy sinking so much of our salary cap into Allen and Draper. Even if Oscar retires. Seems a bit shortsighted. Could see other areas of the side becoming more critical over the next 2-3 years which we may be unable to address due to salary cap limitations.

I suppose if we have 3 of Hipwood, Draper, Allen and HSmith in the side then we’re looking pretty good with Fort and Gallop as depth

Hopefully we’re not out of the running for Aleer. Seems more of a longer term fit as a second or third tall defender.

I really like him as well but I don't think we would be anywhere near matching the money that St Kilda are reportedly offering Leek Aleer.

Was it reported the other day that the saints are offering $1.1m pa to this guy? 20 gamer. It’s insanity.

He has promise but that is crazy.

Just using the recruiting strategy of trying to get players from NSW and QLD teams because no one good from Victorian clubs want to play for them. Used to be a cheap strategy but not anymore. It's the academies fault though.

It really says a lot that they have to continue upping their offer to keep NWM, who's the key to the whole rebuild, while offering players millions to play for them. Like, if their star player hasn't re-signed yet, it says way more about how bad the culture, gameplay, club, etc. must be at the Saints.

Can Draper kick straight? If so don’t want him.

Can he shank it with the best of them? If so we want him.
His numbers over the past few seasons suggest he's really good at set shots in the corridor and crap from every other type of shot at goal. Overall, slightly better stats than Hippy.

I'll happily be wrong, but don't expect that to be the case.

If we were giving him afl average wage as a reclamation project that would be one thing, but we are clearly offering good money.

He's played less games in the last 4 seasons than Oscar Allen has.

His performance has never been more than some occasional highlights (Johnny Bananas pulled put some ok stats on him a while back to be fair).

I don't like paying ruckman and I especially don't like playing good money for an injury prone ruckman.
It depends what we want him to do. If we want someone to give us what the Big O did at his best (clearances from grabbing it out of the ruck, resting forward and kicking a few, taking a big contested mark up the line) Draper can get there if all goes well for him. And we could certainly do much worse than that. But I don't know if he'll ever rise above that level given his age and injury history. If we're looking for more than that, we should be looking elsewhere.

I do think Smith can be better in time than the Big O was. He has the athleticism and work rate. But he needs time, opportunity and good luck with injuries.

I would like to remind everyone that i called Draper before anyone else. Also, hipwood, draper, allen, Morris. Aren't we running too tall? My understanding is that Draper will replace Oscar, Allen will replace Joe, but i feel like Morris has come more into his own as he's become the central figure. He was less impactful with Joe in the lineup, so if you have allen and hipwood up there, i'm afraid it could harm his form.

You don't think Morris is playing better because he's in his second year rather than his first?

There's that, but isn't it logical that Morris will get less chances because there will be more of a forward presence with Allen in next year? Right now Hipwood is the only other tall, but if you add Allen in there, you will have him going for the same contests that Morris is going after.

Oscar Allen in his best form would have the best opposition KPD put on him which would mean Logan Morris would consistently get a lesser KPD in 2026 thus he might get more chances to shine.

And if we only played 1 forward Morris would get all the contests

I don't understand your point. The forwards need to share the load and we'll continue to try and set up as many scoring opportunities as possible even if that means Logan gets to less contests

Why do you have his mobile number?
