How has Brain been playing this year? Could he be an adequate replacement for Statce, or has he stalled a little in his development?

Looked a real option last year?

From the small bits of VFL I’ve watched he looks well off the pace. Still young and could improve etc.

Just as an aside the rumour that I was referencing wasn't to do with the trip itself, but popped up at the same time as the rumours around the 'Vegas' trip.

It may not have anything to do with it and as Perrip said it may be it was as simple as taking the extra year to take him through to FA (certainly feasible and likely), or perhaps something more private, which we will never know.

In either which way, the end result is the same and it's looking increasingly likely that he is going to leave. As others have said it leaves a big hole down back especially next year with Noah out for at least the first few months you'd think.

Yeah he'd be a massive loss but I guess it would be Doedee's way in potentially.

I've watched Doedee closely a few times in the vfl...let's just say he hasn't set the world on fire, he's along way off it IMO.
Just hoping he can have a good pre season in 2026 and be able to play some Senior games.

At this stage looking like a bust. I suppose he hasn't had much luck and there's always hope now that he's out there.

FB: Zorko, Payne, Lester
HB: Wilmot, Andrews, Answerth
C: Fletcher, McCluggage, Berry
HF: Cameron, Hipwood, Ashcroft
FF: Rayner, Allen, Morris
Fol: Draper, Dunkley, Neale

Int: Coleman, Ashcroft, Marshall, Bailey, Annable
You left out Lohmann.

Just wanting to clarify something if we did get Sam Draper he played okay as a ruck / backup ruck (depending on how Smith develops or hopefully remains uninjured) could we then look to trade Draper for picks in the future?

Essentially turn a free agent into future draft picks?

Maybe thats our new strategy get an injured free agent in, get them back on track to show they are very useful and valubale and then give them an out and we get draft picks in return - a new rort is born!!

If you are still wondering why we’re going after Draper and Allen, today’s game is a pretty good example.
Absolutely agree. Conditions weren’t great for talls admittedly, but that didn’t stop theirs from having good games. Witts contributed heavily to their midfield dominance. I’m still not convinced Draper is the answer, but he would’ve surely been more competitive than Fort and Oscar today.

Hipwood might be carrying an injury I suspect. His contributions are well down on what he’s been able to deliver previously. That being the case, the KPF cupboard is looking lean when our 20 year old, second season forward is a bit quiet which is a worry. Allen is a necessity.

Honestly, if Gallop gets up next year, and we get the ins we're expecting, I can see the tall forwards being Allen, Morris and Gallop rotating with Draper/Henry Smith.

That, on paper, looks a lot better than what we have.

Our LTC's for defenders have been for the most part a disaster zone.

We gave Kiddy one and he's hardly been on the park since.

Payne has been mostly injured for the vast majority of his.

And we gave Doedee 4 years and he hasn't looked like playing 2 years in.

So it's understandable that we won't be upping the ante on Starce if someone else makes him a good offer given his circumstances.

We’ve certainly been unlucky. Doedee is the only really borderline call for mine. Two ACLs, 4 years was always going to be a big call.

It's luck bar Doedee ,yes.

But to me it's no surprise that we don't have the cattle to compete with a strong forward line.

Answerth being out and Starce with his issues being cream on the cake.

We're relying on guys like Zorko and Lester who are well into the twilight.

And Payne. Gardiner has regressed and we also lost Adams a couple of years back. Our defensive stocks are probably too low to do anything this year.

I do wonder whether it might be worth trying Joyce over Gardiner for a couple of weeks and potentially looking at making Hippy a legit swing man or transition fully to the backline to open a spot for Gallop or a Smith/Draper tag team in 2026.

It's a reasonable suggestion but I don't think Hipwood has the sort of talent or defender's nous required.

I could see him playing on the wing in certain circumstances . Obviously not permanently.

We've asked a lot of Hipwood this year and the sooner we get a legit key forward in to share the load the better he'll be.

Payne and kiddy were clearly worth it for their respective non-injured years. I’m not going to be angry if we let Starce go (as sad as it is) because of the obvious issues. If it turns out we let cal go because we had to pay Draper 50k per year more though….
