I'd suggest tempering any expectations we have in Henry Smith. He is a slow burner that is for sure. Will need to get fitter and stronger to be an automatic selection in our side. There is talent but he has a long way to go. I'd suggest Ty Gallop looks a more likely type.
This is his fifth season, if there's a long way to go before he's good enough, then I fear it'll never come (here at least).

Completely understand your view point. Plenty of injuries along the way so he has had a stunted development.

Interesting that Fagan said he's still not sure whether he's a forward or a ruck.

If he's a forward it'd be nice to see him clunk a mark or two over his head. Given his size.

So, with Goody losing the head job at Melbourne, a little bit of speculation Max Gawn might look elsewhere too.

If only there was a club that would suit. A club right in the premiership window with an up & coming young ruckman (whom he rates highly) he could mentor.

FTR, I have no idea about his contract status.

For me, Henry Smith still lacks the strength to play ruck at senior level.

He looks like he’s still transitioning from the baby giraffe stage to a man’s body.

He still is far to easily pushed out of the contest by other part time rucks.

We can dream right.

Kind of an issue that. Means he isnt really developing in either role well.

Would retire a demon one would think. Kinda like Zorko going somewhere, don’t think it will happen.

I'm curious about how trading in Free Agents like Allen and Draper actually works. Surely, the Lions would know by now whether one or both of these guys was coming next year and media stuff like Nicks swaying Draper with a phone call is a media beat up.

Big off season in the gym doing strength work... and a off season on the track doing some speed repeats.
(but no over-use injuries please!)

Also are there any good young key position backs / hybrid backs that can play taller around the leagues at the moment that could come on the cheap knowing they would get a run to start next year with Payne injured? I don't get to watch much VFL and it is slim pickings in the Free agent and out of contract list for key defenders. I think this is a real need we have to address ASAP on the list. Harry Arnold has been mentioned as a possible option previously but is he up to AFL standard - again asking earnestly as I haven't seen enough of him.

(excluding Silvagni because you know Collingwood money)
Ethan Phillips at Carlton VFL. He almost single-handedly stopped us kicking a massive score against them a few weeks ago. 27 disposals, 21 kicks, 89% disposal efficiency, 18 marks, 5 contested marks, 2 tackles.

Some nob rang into SEN with a take it to the bank, "believe me when I say I know the Draper family and after speaking with them today the young fella will be at Melbourne next season". Believe it or not

Not the phone call itself but $$$ can change a person's mind quickly

It's a mental thing.Looking at his arms last week not having seen any seconds games he is a powerful man and definitely big enough

Clubs, and journos, will generally know where FAs are going once they've made their decision. I.e. TDK to the Saints and Oscar Allen to Brisbane. But, players themselves won't publicly announce it until the season is finished.

Concerning Draper, he's in the same boat as Starc currently is. He hasn't yet made up his mind if he's going to stay at his current club or leave to a different club.

Hipwood is a real chance of moving back IMO. He's the most frustrating player we've got. Loads of natural ability but almost clueless

Hipwood can have a Leppitsch like transition. Always thought he would be better down back. No room for him forward with a fit Allen, Draper and Smith

Melbourne in tatters, Petracca to FF at the Lions. I'm sure he'd like to finish his career with at least two more premierships ;)
If we’re throwing out (albeit unrealistic) names, McCreery would be the one I’d love part of the team. Was so happy to see him miss last week. Players like him and Jones (GWS version) have got hold of us in the past. I also like his pressure ability.

Apparently multiple clubs are testing players at Collingwood to see if they can pry them out. McCreery was the latest mentioned.

I like McCreery as well, but who goes out of our best forward setup for him?

Could probably take over from Charlie but Charlie not OOC till 2028.

I don't actually think Petracca is unrealistic at all. They have no real president, no CEO and now no coach. That side will never rebuild in time for him to get another tilt and he's tried to get out before. I think a future first and third would probably get it done if he really wants out. The last thing they need now is for disgruntled players being held against their will, bringing more stink.

Now the unrealistic side of me? Well, he wants the Bont ;)

If the $'s for Allen/Draper are already causing some concern, then Petraccas $'s will be a problem. I would rather we distribute $'s to our boys coming through. We're going to need it to hold onto them all.
Trac would be nice, but he's not what we're missing.

I don't see either OA or Draper being the difference between a flag or not so maybe we lose interest, front loading CP's contract would leave plenty for the later commitments. He is now very highly motivated to move to a flag chance away from a sinking ship. He owes them no loyalty after the way he was treated post injury. With the quality of supply into our forward line I could see him kicking 60-80 a year. The only real issue is it seems he still wants to play midfield when Melbourne is forcing him more forward. I guess he would live with that for a couple more flags.
