Ahoy fellow animal-based football team.

Any keen VFL watchers able to tell me about Zane Zakostelsky? Apparently been playing down back for you guys lately? We are stretched thin for back material obviously, been mentioned in our sub and curious what any Lions fans had to say about him?

Thing is though he's not very good.
He's got the tools but he's probably 2-3 years from being a potential star.

Chances of him getting there at St Kilda? Eh...

McGovern is a dud and Aleer is not worth $600k plus. You can’t get sucked in by somebody doing 1-2 flashy things in a game once and then expecting them to come in and perform every week. Aleer is a hype player.

I’d honestly stick with what we have, especially with Zakotelsky improving nicely in the 2’s.

Bringing in depth players is dangerous. You end up with half a dozen of them clogging list spots that could go to kids and there’s no development happening.

We have lots of kids developing, a fair few in the senior team (I :hearts: rorts). I don't love McGovern but we need a mature body to cover payne being out - and dizzy is a free agent.

Joyce? I’d have Joyce over McGovern! He’s every bit as good.

We need to remember where Carlton is at from a list health point of view, where they are at on the table….and consider the fact he is still not in their best 22.

I’d love to see any vision from recent seasons as to why we think having him on the list is a good thing….

Do you see Jaspa’s future as a mid? I think he’d kill it in there but for team balance I don’t know if he’ll end up in there. Far more suited to playing outside than our other young mids
I believe we'll likely have to many, more pure inside mids in our team over the course of his career, for him to get genuine time in there.

We're short on tall defenders ourselves, buckley's chance we consider letting him go. He's developing slowly, but steadily.

Agree with this. He’s a project player thats tracking along well.

He’s come a long way in 18 months in the VFL in my opinion. Looked out of place when he first started, but gradually improves with every outing.

Zakotelsky is about two years behind Aleer, development wise.

I'm not advocating for us to go after Aleer, but I wouldn't be putting any eggs in the Zakotelsky basket for another two preseasons yet.

Joyce gives effort, McGovern might be the laziest talented player I've ever seen. Could we fix him?

this is why im deadset against mcgovern fwiw.

i can abide by limited players like day and joyce who you know will go out there and crack in every time they get a gig. you can rely on them to play to their ability.

mcgovern picks and chooses when he wants to actually perform and that is a trait that above all others makes a terrible footballer imo.

I have the exact same feeling about draper except we'd be paying Draper like 750k as opposed to like 300k max for McGovern. I'd prefer to retain Dizzy obviously.

I don’t think I could deal with watch unco McGovern go Clanger after Clanger. As fly would say, I just don’t want to live in that space.

The 55m kick lace out to a player running through the middle that happened max once per game would be special though.

At the end of the day ideally we are talking about a mature VFL depth option when Payne is back from injury and McGovern doesn't fit that really. But not sure what other free options there are so we can preserve draft picks for rorts.

I feel that with Draper he will crack in but you have to keep his attention. He is easily distracted by shiny things and will wander off. He’s like those kids you see in westfields whose parents have them on full body leashes.

Ryan Lester has earned another year. He and Andrews are invaluable in defence and turning defence into offence.

Doesn’t matter in any event, he’s the new host of afternoons with Rowey on 5AA.

Personally I think Draper is worth the risk.
Given Oscar’s body is letting him down, Fort is no spring chicken (although is getting everything out of himself to be fair) and Smith hasn’t shown enough yet to hang the future on.
I know he comes across as a boofhead but I think he would fit in very well. He has X factor which very few ruckman have.

I disagree would flourish as an mid once he puts on some weight he will definitely be in the mid mix quik hands, fearless, tackles runs both ways borderline elite kicking skills his versatility will be the only thing holding him back from being a full time mid as wing and hbf he already is dominant do not sleep on Jasper is more well rounded than Will and that's no knock on Will but Jasper has a more well rounded game but Willy is an insidemid through and though and will always be. Also if Jasper doesn't fill out still will be 1 of those deceptively strong guys with wirey bodies with the strength of an inside mid.
You all remember what the Fyfe boy looked like in his first few seasons well he filled out and went on to become an inside beast who had no peers for a period albeit not the same players as Fyfe is more fwd mid where as Jasper is more mid Defender and that's because his is a better decision maker and user by foot than Fyfe was.
I feel in a few years time Jasper/Fyfe comparisons will be common.....but i could be wrong

Yeah I said I think he’d kill it in there, he’s just more suited to playing on the outside or in different roles than guys like the Ashcrofts
