when mccluggage gets older i can see him going back out to a wing and fletcher going inside. has similar traits to hugh but is better overhead which is a major asset in why he is flourishing down back.

I think people are jumping the gun on one article by Twomey linking us to him, Since I have taken an interest and have formed a similar opinion. He's not that good.
On our list he would be a Joyce level fringe. I"d rather put time into Zakostelsky.

Edit: Maybe the club has also made that assessment and moved on to McGovern.

He never stops trying, his disposal, marking and spoiling skills are phenomenal, he is brilliant on the deck, he is quick and his football IQ is one of the highest in the competition. Wonder if Ah Chee + Starce could become a future first from West Coast. That's 2 premiership players who'll slot straight into their best 22 - not to mention us paying enough for Allen means a pick 2 this year for them anyway.

Added bonus for them is that giving the Lions your future first all but guarantees you will make finals next year!

Interesting - I thought the exact some thing. First time I can remember seeing him smiling and happy like that for a while. Maybe he has made up his mind to stay...fingers crossed.

If Lester plays week before - we won't lose that game to Sydney. So many times our defense was lacking in the intercept game due to lack of experience playing together.

2023 was the year that finally Fagan opened his eyes and the Lester Bandwagon started rolling. Lester was dropped after the round 11 loss to Adelaide, just before our bye. He missed selection for the ‘infamous’ Round 13 loss to Hawthorn at the MCG and was reinstated the following week. Since then he’s played about 63 out of a possible 64 games. This includes consecutive Grand Finals and a Premiership.

For the record, he was only given 3 games in 2022 and the last of those, against St.Kilda, he was the unused Sub.

What actually happened was the thinking around Ryan Lester appears to have changed mid way through 2023 and he was given the benefit of a sustained run in the seniors. Since then, he has played tremendous football and become an integral part of our team. The potential for this outcome was evident to some, before it dawned on the coaching staff. Simple as that.

There are actually ways in which I’d be happy to get a deal like that done, especially if our assistance package includes maybe an end of second round pick or something.

Cripps going back around makes it harder, but considering we are likely to delist Hunt, possibly Cole, hopefully find a way to get rid of Owies, and maybe Ryan moves on, I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing in Cal and Starc. I’d rather play both of them than Cole/Hunt and Owies that’s for sure. Can probably offer Starc some mid time too

Your condesending words were “finally Fagan opened his eyes”…..I take that as he had closed eyes (if they are not open ) to Froggy until season 2023 when Fagan opened his eyes which he did not. Froggy’s dramatic improvement in form is what has given us much joy in his last few years with us….not Fagan with his eyes open or shut.
Next to you, not many have enjoyed watching Ryan’s footy more than me. (Probably apart from his Mum & Dad)

I disagree would flourish as an mid once he puts on some weight he will definitely be in the mid mix quik hands,fearless,tackles runs both ways borderline elite kicking skills his versatility will be the only thing holding him back from being a full time mid as wing and hbf he already is dominant do not sleep on Jasper is more well rounded than Will and that's no knock on Will but Jasper has a more well rounded game but Willy is an insidemid through and though and will always be. Also if Jasper doesn't fill out still will be 1 of those deceptively strong guys with wirey bodies with the strength of an inside mid.
You all remember what the Fyfe boy looked like in his first few seasons well he filled out and went on to become an inside beast who had no peers for a period albeit not the same players as Fyfe is more fwd mid where as Jasper is more mid Defender and that's because his is a better decision maker and user by foot than Fyfe was.
I feel in a few years time Jasper/Fyfe comparisons will be common.....but i could be wrong

Bruce is building his confidence nicely at AFL level, what I really like about him and all footballers with this trait is his vision and preciseness via foot. You can never have enough good ball users in a team, he plays tough at VFL level, hopefully with even more confidence he will start taking tacklers on in AFL footy.
