I believe Neale would be a natural successor to Zorko in the backline.

I am with you 100% on this. I actually think we'll drop him behind the ball more and more this year, just as we did in the GF.

Neale wouldn't have that attacking success as Zorko does, but would be very reliable and would allow the likes of Wilmot and Coleman to be the attacking weapons off half back. Not everyone has to be.

Maybe. I'm not sure he has the aggressive kicking skills Zorko does?
Almost noone does but like a lot of senior inside mids, I have been pleasantly surprised at how nice a short kick Neale is when given the space HBF tend to get

Gettable
Allen:
  • No doubt Lions have spoken to Allen.
  • Allen wants a 6 year deal from West Coast.
  • Pies are also interested.
  • Most likely stays at Eagles rather than leaves
Starc:
  • Wants to play in the midfield. Sees himself being a midfielder rather than a lockdown defender
  • Lions have offered him a range of deals including a 2 year deal and a 6 year deal.
  • Happy to let it play out through the year
  • Is an RFA this year
  • Vic clubs, as well as WA clubs, are interested in him.
JUH:
  • Brisbane has been linked to him.

With Answorth playing a vital role in the backline last year, you could move Starce into the midfield on rotation. Although, I don't know how good Answorth is against talls, and our MF is getting so hard to get into.

I think after playing so many years as a shutdown, the ship might have sailed on that. He looks like a 200+ player already so not sure failing as a mid is a smart move.

Maybe with Answerth coming in, he could push for more of a rebounding role to replace Zorko maybe

From what I’ve read, West Coast has offered Allen a 4 plus 2 deal with a games played trigger of 62 games out of 92 (minimum) games.

I would be surprised if we got Allen tbh. Perth boy, grew up supporting WC. Eagles should, in theory have more money to throw at him.

All true but WC might prefer a top compensation pick and he might want a chance to play finals…could be a win-win parting of ways?

The one main reason Allen would consider us is our ability to manage injuries and number of players who've had a decent run after up and down battle with their body. That in addition to being in frame for finals/premiership for the next 2-3 years.

Nah, I don't see Neale in that capacity to be honest. He has the vision to release players by hand but I don't see him doing a 2 step 50-60m long kick to setup play from the backline. Zorko is unique in that aspect, he's extremely aggressive when needed and I haven't seen that in Neale so far.

I'd say Bailey is lot more promising to takeover from Zorko if you leave him in the backline. He'll take the game on, go for some improbable kicks and naturally aggressive.

Yeah that would make sense. He is a neat and tidy player with his disposal when he has time, and would/ should be hard to beat when the ball goes to ground. I guess with Coleman returning (🤞) and Wilmot and Mckenna providing some dash, Neale might slot in there somewhere, but for me it would be a very different role. Maybe closer to what Caleb Daniel provides in terms of how he would distribute the ball?
