On First Crack tonight King, Montagna and Dixon were salivating about the battle of the master coaches ie. Scott v Mitchell.... it was vomit worthy.

Darragh Joyce OOC this season, would Jordan Butts be a meaningful upgrade on Darragh?

Would be great depth, there’s an argument he’d be playing ahead of Gardiner right now

in a vacuum sure. however, from my pov, depth / fringe players on the list should be either:

a) kids who are still developing (zz, torrent, marshall)
OR
b) mature players who are on low end contracts and if traded in, done so for minimum draft capital (day, joyce, fort)

butts does not fit into either of those categories and i would not be keen to stump up the picks / salary required to entice them over to largely play vfl footy.

I’m sure our LM team would be having pretty pointed conversations with his manager about intentions. As mentioned, if he indicates he wants out i’d hope the club maximises it and gets on the front foot. Plenty of elite players who are happy to take unders for success. Could dangle whatever picks we got for him to someone willing to sacrifice $$$ for premierships/lifestyle.

It was a typical cliched answer to any question these players are all coached to answer. What from that makes you think he is gone?

Ok, I might be a biased Lions nuffy, but I think Geelong don't have the same issues we have when it comes to list depth. We have way more talent then they do.

We're up to our eyeballs in winning a premiership with almost a third of our best side on the sidelines.

It's lucky for the rest of the comp we do have injury issues right now.

It would almost be a fait accompli if we were at full strength.

Whatever happens, happens. So be it. Take six of Geelong's best starting lineup out & how do you think they would fare?

I am not aware of how much $ n how long a deal we have offered him but it would be difficult to say no imo to WC when he is possibly only 1 concussion away from ending his career.

Now 650K? Our offer 725K? Could we afford to go 900K for 2026 and then down to 700-25K for the remainder of the offer?

But his uncle has been a great coach for us for many years.
Could we promise that in the event of a head knock we’d find him 5 year coaching position.
