What does everyone think Buderick will cost apparently we're big into him to replace Starz
He is OOC so not much.
However, we won't have any trade capital left (very late picks) after Annable.
Then there is Ridley if that comes into play.

Of course, we get something for Starch and or Ah-Chee if they go.

If it wasnt for his concussions I'd be fine with Starce on a 6 year contract on a fair amount of money

Hes a pretty safe bet as someone who can play a role at a high level in a premiership team

Thanks that explains why - curious why Gettables only mentioned we were only willing to offer 2 years to Starcevich 🤔

They didn't. They've also mentioned that we've had a range of options in front of him ranging from 2 year to longer term deals.

The 2 year offer to me is under the idea that he might want to go back to WA eventually, or he would have 2 more years with us then be an UFA when Tassie entered the comp.

That sounds reasonable by the Lions if correct.
It says we want you to stay but understand you may want to return home at some stage.
Also does not get the club in a bidding war with the Eagles who clearly have the money to outbid us.

I like Starce a lot and I think he was one of the unsung hero's in our premiership team, but this year has reminded us that we're a system based club. We have no Payne, no answerth, no Kiddy, no lachie, and the list could go on. And yet we have found ourselves in a prelim. Even if he leaves, his role will easily be covered (probably by answerth) who is just as good, if not better.

Also, 900k for 6 years. That's band 1 territory. Let's get a first rounder from this.

I remember Dermie saying the same about the 1988 premiership team, Joyce replaced Jeans as coach due to illness and he said "we were so well drilled you could have put a cardboard cutout in the box and we still would have won".

As an aside I used to work in a shop in Moorabbin and Jeans came in a lot, one of the staff was a Sandringham nuffie and got in his ear endlessly about the zebs. The pained look on Jeans face when he saw him walking towards him was priceless.

Is Budarick a smokescreen to push Essendon to work to get Ridley to us or this is our option or is Ridley off the table, so we will go for Budarick instead? I don't see how we fit both.

Budarick will cost nothing draft pick wise and is small defender depth. Ridley is a third tall.

Don't think the 2 are linked. Budarick is starce going insurance.

Starcevich is 13 centimetres taller than Budarick so can't see him as a like for like replacement, could not play on medium talls like Starce can.

Ridley can play on Key and Medium talls, not the really small guys though, Doedee if back to his best.

I just don't understand why you would pay Starcevich the big $$ because of what he has done as a defender only to let him play in the midfield.
Well it worked so well with Zac Williams...

At least Williams had played games in the AFL as a midfielder. Good games too!

Can't remember Starce ever playing any midfield time. Apart from a few games as a half-forward when he debuted in 2018 he's been a defender.

Buderick is probably depth for a Answerth type player. Ridley is the long term third tall that maybe the list manager thinks Doedee cannot be. We were winning games at the start of the year without Starcevich but we had Answerth. If Starcevich goes we wont have either for at least the first half of next season. So Buderick for a packet of Nobbys Nuts is worth it.

I'd throw these in to sweeten the deal for the Suns >

Ok, I might be a biased Lions nuffy, but I think Geelong don't have the same issues we have when it comes to list depth. We have way more talent then they do.

We're up to our eyeballs in winning a premiership with almost a third of our best side on the sidelines.

It's lucky for the rest of the comp we do have injury issues right now.

It would almost be a fait accompli if we were at full strength.

Whatever happens, happens. So be it. Take six of Geelong's best starting lineup out & how do you think they would fare?
We have had so many injuries to crucial players over the past few years that everyone forgets just how many we have had.
2023.
Marcus Adams was playing some really good football and was our second best key defender in 2022 until concussion ended his career. In 2023, we lost Ashcroft and Payne. Jack Gunston could get his body or his form right so was essentially out with injury. If we go to the 2023 Grand Final with a fit Payne, Adams, Ashcroft and Gunston, we blow Collingwood away. Adams has been sort of easily forgotten because of his injury history but the 3 keys of Adams, Payne and Andrews would have been a scary proposition for every teams forward line. I'm not sure how Froggy Lester would fit in but he has the ability to play on the mid sizes and rebound.
2024 we lost a heap of first 22 players through ACLs but we won anyway.
This year again we have been smashed by injuries to best 22 players and guys who should be best 22 that haven't got their body right. We are still a genuine chance to win it this year. On top of all that we lost one of our best and top 2-3 most important players that we have had no replacement for.
Next year we bring in Draper and Allen who will immediately improve our teams weaknesses should they get their body right.

AFL football is small margins and every team has injuries, but I don't think I am crazy to think we could be gearing up for a 4-peat next year if some injuries (and Joes retirement) had gone a bit differently. I'm sure fans of every team in their window thinks that. Our depth of talent is outstanding, from players we have drafted when we didn't have the best draft hands to players brought in by the LM team.

He's not. you're underrating Starce here. Answerth will be serviceable and it is unlikely to cost us games but he isn't as good as Starce.

Who else do they have outside of Harley that they need to pay big bucks to? By the time they have the talent in that they will need to pay big money to Starce will probably be on a lesser amount due to a front loaded contract.

I think they're both quite different. Starce better at the stronger small forwards who get goals from clearances and he can play taller

Noah probably more suited for the 1 on 1 ground contests and quicker small forwards that cover ground

I'd love to have both and losing Starce will probably require some adjustments in our defensive setups
