I've already told my kids if I start forgetting which team I follow or I think Vossy is still our captain whack me into a home and don't come and visit me or better still make it look like an accident and roll me off the top of cliff face on one of my treks.
Or worse you have a kid that isn't a Lion and convinces you you dumped Lions at.the merge are now a fanatic Carlton fan!

Is Budarick a smokescreen to push Essendon to work to get Ridley to us or this is our option or is Ridley off the table, so we will go for Budarick instead? I don't see how we fit both.
Budarick is most similar to Answerth on our list, but I rate Budarick as a better kick. Not sure on his agility post his acl.

Okay so summarising the current state of play as I see it

Ins:
Allen
Draper
Annable
Budarick (possible)
Ridley (possible)
McFadyen / Geesu / Prindable / Waller / Other draftee

Outs:
Ah Chee
Starcevich? (I hope somehow we keep him but the money being thrown around he would have to take it)
Robertson
Ryan
Tunstill
Day
Craven?

Unsure on Contract Status but hopefully resigning
McCarthey
McKenna
Joyce
Beecken

We appear to overall improve our talls on all lines - could the Ridley trade be as simple as the picks from Starce and Ah Chee if they both move on? Gain another small defender and Geesu could be that small forward we want but a small/medium pressure forward is still a bit of a gap.

I think we missed a trick last year at the draft as we could have had Dodson instead of Craven and I think our Ruck stocks would be very secure and deep - if big O retires we are still a bit thin on Ruck options I feel.

Also although our midfield is deep losing Robertson and Tunstill could leave us a little exposed in the seconds in the midfield so maybe there is a spot for Prindable.

Herald Sun:
Brisbane midfield star Zac Bailey has no interest in considering a trade this off-season...
He will sit down in the off-season after the club best-and-fairest to assess whether he wants to hold off talks with the Lions until late next year or sign a summer contract extension.

Herald Sun:

Herald Sun:

Bit more detail:

Clubs like Essendon will throw millions at Bailey in coming weeks but he is uninterested in an immediate move given he has built his life in Brisbane since being drafted.

He will have a decision to make on signing a new long-term deal over summer or running the gauntlet of playing great football in a contract year to maximise his worth.

Given his brilliant mix of midfield play and goalkicking power he would be able to secure a deal of $1.3-$1.5m a season if he left.

But he would have to take less than that to remain at Brisbane given the club’s salary obligations to its stars.

Free agent Brandon Starcevich has a two-year deal in front of him at the Lions but is considering an Eagles offer of over four years at up to $900,000 a season.

He is keen to return home at some stage so like Sydney’s Chad Warner could sign a final two-year deal before returning home or might make the leap this off-season.

I like those ins and outs except for Tunstill out, I think in his brief stints in the AFL this season he has shown good improvement from previous years, IMO we offer him a one year extension. Mckenna a possibility as an out... retire/home to Ireland?

Pretty sure Linc has been extended one year, Joyce needed as depth, really hope we keep Beecken, has something.

I want us to draft Geesu and McFadyen, Geesu out most of the year with injury so should be able to get him as a rookie.

Hot dang, these WCE supporters on the Starce thread on the D&T board have spent too much time down in the mines and don’t understand they have to trade for Starce.

Total win win for us. If he goes get to say PONY UP for 3 weeks, if he stays it is funny he turned down that much money.

I like Joyce, I really do but if we get Ridley, does that change things?

Would mean our true Key tall defenders are Harris Andrews, Jack Payne, Jordan Ridley and Zane Zakostelsky.

Not sure if KPD is ZZs long term position, maybe an athletic ruck/fwd in the end.

I'd keep Joyce on, he would be on very minimal wages and no other club would want him, 3 KPD is not enough.

FWIW I would take Jacob Blight over Darragh Joyce if it was possible.

Darcy Gardiner?

Can fill in at a pinch like he is now but do not see Darcy(192cm) as a true KPD much like Froggy(190cm).

Maybe I'll change my mind if Darcy ends up a Premiership KPDer in 8 days.😁
It would be nice if Gardiner and McInerney got to play in a grand final, hopefully getting the win.

Perryman too...
I was having a look and it seems they were offered similar amounts too, which surprised me although inflation, rise in the salary cap etc makes a difference.

We have had so many injuries to crucial players over the past few years that everyone forgets just how many we have had.
2023.
Marcus Adams was playing some really good football and was our second best key defender in 2022 until concussion ended his career. In 2023, we lost Ashcroft and Payne. Jack Gunston could get his body or his form right so was essentially out with injury. If we go to the 2023 Grand Final with a fit Payne, Adams, Ashcroft and Gunston, we blow Collingwood away. Adams has been sort of easily forgotten because of his injury history but the 3 keys of Adams, Payne and Andrews would have been a scary proposition for every teams forward line. I'm not sure how Froggy Lester would fit in but he has the ability to play on the mid sizes and rebound.
2024 we lost a heap of first 22 players through ACLs but we won anyway.
This year again we have been smashed by injuries to best 22 players and guys who should be best 22 that haven't got their body right. We are still a genuine chance to win it this year. On top of all that we lost one of our best and top 2-3 most important players that we have had no replacement for.
Next year we bring in Draper and Allen who will immediately improve our teams weaknesses should they get their body right.

AFL football is small margins and every team has injuries, but I don't think I am crazy to think we could be gearing up for a 4-peat next year if some injuries (and Joes retirement) had gone a bit differently. I'm sure fans of every team in their window thinks that. Our depth of talent is outstanding, from players we have drafted when we didn't have the best draft hands to players brought in by the LM team.
Geez I miss Marcus Adams - what an absolute beast he was for a few years there. Hope he's doing well nowadays.

I've accepted that Starce is leaving. 3 of our players have been linked to other clubs this season. Bailey, Starce and Ah Chee. Only 1 of those players have come out and dismissed those rumours, while the other two stayed silent all season. Nothing against Starce and Ah Chee for chasing a better contract, but it's quite obvious what will happen here.

I definitely see a need to keep Joyce as a cheap backup.

I think Joyce is the coverage for Andrews and Payne until ZZ is ready (I still wonder about him up forward).

Ridley comes into the Lester and Doedee spot as a more rebounding third.

Gardiner can play in second or third spot but not sure he can cover for the really tall guys
