I've accepted that Starce is leaving. 3 of our players have been linked to other clubs this season. Bailey, Starce and Ah Chee. Only 1 of those players have come out and dismissed those rumours, while the other two stayed silent all season. Nothing against Starce and Ah Chee for chasing a better contract, but it's quite obvious what will happen here.
They’ve done their time. And we need money for others incoming. Just the way it rolls.

Yep massive money offers from rival clubs will be coming for the likes of Will Ashcroft(OOC 2026), Zac Bailey(2026), Darcy Wilmot(2027), Logan Morris(2027), Levi Ashcroft(2027), Kai Lohmann(2027) and if he continues on his upward trajectory Ty Gallop(2027). Keidean Coleman also 2027, it's a wait and see on how he starts 2026 after 2 years out of action.

The rest are 2028 and beyond so plenty of time to organise that.

I'm sure we'll lock a few away this off-season. I believe Levi is already signed up till 2029 via a pre-draft agreement adding a 2 year extension.

Will's management was in contract talks earlier this year. I'm expecting him to sign for another 4 years similar to Daicos taking him to free agency.

With Gallop and Smith emerging, Hipwood back in the side next year, and Logan continuing to be elite, do you really need Allen—especially for the price he’ll command? By the way, I’m an old Fitzroy Lions junior, so Brisbane’s my second team—I come in peace!
We would've all sorted it out months ago. Gallop and Smith can't really affect it. We're not going to pull the offer now.

Clearly we don't need him as we're going pretty well without him but he'll improve us

We could really play the free agency game and give Jamie Elliot 2 years at 600 - could act as that pressure hybrid forward to replace Ah Chee. Able to provide some different perspectives from his time at Collingwood who do well in systems without as many massive names.

Retires after 2 years when we need the coin for young guys to be resigned. Might need that 600 to front end some contracts though.

It is going to be a good problem to have hopefully. But where do you add Draper, Allen and Hipwood to the team from last night?

If we get there again I feel big O might hang up the boots so that is the Draper spot (otherwise Draper plays as often as possible and tag team Fort / Big O to allow all to be fresher). Draper may also need a slow progression / stints off for recovery which the Allen signing and development of our young group can accommodate.

At least one key forward is often injured and the two rucks has worked but may not with possible ruck changes next year.

Hipwood could / should be out for some time to allow a full recovery from his ACL injury so not a major competition for his spot early on. Allen may also be eased into the squad as he fully recovers / gets to as good a health as possible with his knee.

If everyone is fit Hipwood should play which means Gallop likely drops out and is able to continue to develop and hone target areas effectively in the VFL, but knowing he has the capacity to stand up when needed. We can't expect Gallop to play like he did last night every game, same as Henry Smith.

Allen could come in for Fort and Gallop replace Ah Chee in a taller forward setup and Gallop taking chop out in the ruck as a more mobile option. Or Allen just comes in for Ah Chee and we have 3 genuine tall forwards with Morris / Hipwood / Gallop pushing up the ground more as the link and marking target.

I think Allen either gives us a very solid over supply or the ability to account for a slow progression of Hipwood back next year / rotation of rucks (this is also where Henry Smith should get more game time as Fort and/or Oscar could be given more breaks or short stints in VFL for longevity) and also allowing Gallop more time to fully develop in the VFL. Morris has also been absolutely phenomenal but if we have the capacity to give these young guys a break here and there without compromising squad dynamics or quality it should also prolong their careers rather than burning them out.

So maybe not 'needed' but could be an absolute blessing in the short and long term development of the club and is underpriced compared to his actual capacity - if we can get him back from injury and just being a part of the machine rather than a key cog and the weight of captaincy of a struggling team will hopefully see him back to his old capacity.

Any word on Beecken? Is that step above VFL quality but competing with Fletcher / Zorko / Coleman for that Wing / HBF role. Would be excellent insurance given that Zorko must be thinking of hanging them up after next year and Beecken has that speed and dash we are sometimes lacking - I haven't seen it on limited viewing but does he have any capacity to be a possible Starcevich replacement and lock down on the small / mid type forwards?

Relying on a tall forward line comprised of a teenager and 20 year is a bold strategy cotton. We will need Allen. We will be able to play all 3 in the side. Eric won’t be back until later in the year next year.

It would be incredibly unprofessional for is to go back on our word, respected teams need to follow through and honour their commitment once a deal has been struck.

Gallop, as freakish he has been the last two weeks, is a second year player next year, so you never know what that might mean.

Reville looks the natural replacement for Ah Chee but Starc is the big question and we won't have Payne, Answerth or Hipwood for a decent chunk next season, so the more options we have the better. As mentioned Big O might well retire if we win it next week and as good as Fort is, he's getting on too. So all the blokes coming in are super valuable.

I worry about our defense early next seasom, we really need Doedee and Kiddy to be good to go and after two years out effectively and still having knee / injury issues, there's no guarantee sadly.

You can’t think about Doedee and Kiddy until mid-Feb next year. See what a full preseason achieves for both.

Gallop's doing things in cutthroat games that 19 year olds don't do.

The tackling and pressure he brings is that brutish big man influence that we've been lacking.

With another pre season under his belt I doubt he'll ever be out of the side.

Sure there's a long way to go but the way he's improved from his 1st game to his 5th is a trajectory that you couldn't help but be excited by.

Could Gallop fill Ah Chee's role, with his departure looking likely? As in, along side Hipwood, Morris and Allen? That would be tall but still have a lot of running power with both Hipwood and Gallop good mobility and defensive pressure.

If we retain McKenna I think he would be a logical replacement able to play the defensive tagging role
